Fully agree that Trump’s remarks make sense if he is thinking, in his disjointed way, about unmasking the 2016 coup plot. It gives me hope that Trump knows that Barr is working in that direction. Brennan’s recent comment that “perhaps he had some bad information” means he is feeling the heat. His claim digs him a deeper hole: who gave Brennan that bad information? Russians? UKRAINIANS? So his best defense for interfering with the election, destroying lives, reputations and Trump’s effectiveness in office, is that he is a gullible chump who was easily played. Some CIA Director.

Key to this is "in his disjointed way." The left keeps coming back to about eight or nine Trump comments that allegedly voice support for neo-Nazis, claim that all Mexicans are rapists, and - in this case - is targeting a political opponent looking forward to the 2020 election. But probably half of these so-called damning quotes are the result of Trump's "disjointed" speaking style - shoot from the hip, stream-of-consciousness - which awkwardly jumbles things together and combines them in ways which give an opening to his critics, who will pounce on any morsel he gives them and apply the worst possible interpretation.
Schiff's characterization of the Ukraine phone call is one of the worst and most recent examples of this.
