At least two people were shot dead on a street in the German city of Halle on Wednesday, police said, with witnesses saying that a synagogue was among the gunmen's targets as Jews marked the holy day of Yom Kippur.
One suspect was captured but with a manhunt ongoing for other perpetrators, security has been tightened in synagogues in other eastern German cities while Halle itself was in lockdown.
"Early indications show that two people were killed in Halle. Several shots were fired," police said on Twitter, urging residents in the area to stay indoors.
Police said the "perpetrators fled in a car", adding later that one suspect had been caught.
Max Privorotzki, who heads the Jewish community in Halle, told Spiegel Online the perpetrators had apparently sought to enter a synagogue in the Paulus district but security measures in place helped to "withstand the attack".

BBC is still holding out for a right-wing extremist group, but they have one in custody, so they can’t sit on the ID forever. My guess is ROP.
So far, they’re saying it may be anti-Semitism because they threw a grenade into the synagogues cemetary. But the motive is still unclear. It might be they have a problem with dead people.

They started out by attacking a Turkish bakery next door, so there’s a possibility that it’s just Muslim gang activities.
When the Russians came through East Germany, they just hung anyone wearing Nazi insignia from lampposts. No trials, no nothing. The actual Nazis took the hint and headed West, where the judgment wasn’t quite so summary.

I’m not sure they ever attacked the synagogue, but the news reports have been pretty sparse. What I read was that they threw an explosive device into the bakery and then attacked, were repelled and then shot at random and threw one of their explosive devices over the wall of the cemetery as they ran away.
So who knows?

You have the attack at the Weihnachtsmarkt in Berlin, the attacks in France and the UK, and undoubtedly many other attacks in Europe that we barely heard about in the US. But guess which one the leftists will be wailing about for years in the future.
I lived in Wedding in the 80’s. Berlin is the greatest city in Europe, IMHO. Even the Wall had a certain kind of cool.
