UPDATED: Trey Gowdy has signed on to help Trump through impeachment inquiry: Report

Former Rep. Trey Gowdy has agreed to a request from the White House to assist President Trump as the Democrat-led impeachment inquiry moves forward.

Though initial reports claimed that Gowdy had declined an invite from the White House to participate in the president's defense, the former GOP representative of South Carolina is now on board to assist, according to Law & Crime. Gowdy was approached by the White House this week as potential legal counsel for Trump as he prepares to fight against an impeachment investigation stemming from a July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to a report from CNN. Though Gowdy is an accomplished attorney, the nature of his involvement in Trump's fight against impeachment is not immediately clear. "Confirmed, per a senior White House official, who says Trump has blessed the move," Washington Post White House reporter Josh Dawsey tweeted on Tuesday night. "Trey Gowdy is on the Trump team."

I never jumped on the Bash Gowdy train here on FR and, for one, happy he is on the team. I like him and trust his intellect.

How long did we hear Gowdy express his respect and affection for Mueller? He was dead wrong. I absolutely loved the guy. But I can’t square his Mueller support in my mind nor the lack of results to the Benghazi hearings. He probably disappointed me most of any politician during that time.

Ok,but he could have done sooooo much more when he actually had the right and authority to do so in Congress.

If Gowdy’s job is asking the right questions and framing the arguments, he’s excellent. He doesn’t appear to know how to charge politicians with crimes, but that will not be his role here.

Good points. I hope his role on the "team" is restricted to asking questions and framing arguments.

Giuliani.

What many people are saying on this threat AGAINST Gowdy are they same things they said AGAINST Giuliani.

But look at what a kick-ass Rudy has turned out to be lately.

Too many refuse to give credit where credit is due. Rational people appreciate all the support they can get.

Trump has put everything on the line, now Rep. Trey Gowdy has also by association. That’s how I see it.

Paul Ryan was the reason there was no action; not Gowdy. Also, Gowdy’s willingness to give Mueller the benefit of the doubt is long gone.

If there is an impeachment, Gowdy’s knowledge of the facts surrounding the deep state corruption and his ability to paint a guilty person into a corner will be most valuable.
