PG&E’s power shut-off watch for Northern California: Here’s what you need to know
San Fransicko Chronic ^ | 10/7/2019 | Michael Cabanatuan and Alejandro Serrano

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. said Monday that it might preemptively cut power this week to much of Northern California — including almost all of the Bay Area — to prevent power lines from sparking wildfires during dry and windy weather.

The shut-off watch, covering 29 of the state’s 58 counties, is unprecedented in scope and could grow as forecasts come into focus. Customers in parts of the counties could lose power as soon as Wednesday morning, and the watch extends through Thursday.

Seven of the nine Bay Area counties — all but San Francisco and Marin — were advised of the potential outage, along with the North Coast, the northern parts of the Central Valley and the northern and central Sierra and foothills. The company cited a “potentially widespread, strong and dry wind event.”

A shut-off watch precedes a warning of an actual planned outage.

...and, on top of that, it would appear that the State has told radio amateurs that their service is no longer needed.

With the power out, and cell sites out, and wires down, radio amateur emergency networks may be the only means of communications in or out of these areas. It worked that way in Paradise, CA.

It sounds like PG&E admits that it's equipment probably started the fire.

The question is whether PG&E was negligent. And even if not negligent, is there a way to mitigate that from happening again. There is bound to be a way to reengineer the components most likely to start fires.

This might actually be a sensible approach by the company. Whether or not they fear California gov't bleeding them dry.

I suppose you were to dense to get my sacrasm...I made the statement in response to the fact the poster pretty much had said that I deserved what I got because I happen to live in California....So...when whatever misfortune happens their way, am I to be compassionate and understand...or am I to take their road and dance on their grave? Do I really have to spell it out for you?

Yeah, I know politicians have screwed up the state. We vote..It doesn’t matter. There is not republican party left in California...you gonna give me the bucks to move out? Didn’t think so...

My blinders are off...buddy and I got you pegged as another one of those people...and you know what I mean....

From the Butte COunty pdf you kindly provided a link to: 9.12.6 Acreage Limitation: No more than 6,000 acres of wildland vegetation shall be ignited on any one (1) day within Butte County.

I think that means we can burn 6K acres on Monday, another 6K on Tuesday, etc, etc, etc...providing of course Sacramento doesn’t get a whiff.

Obviously the fire in Paradise, the fire up the road from me that same year, as well as the Swedes Fire, the Wall Fire, the Bangor Fire and several others were unlawful fires as they were more than 6K acres in one day...someone is going to jail...

Yup, its true...Cal Fire is removing Amateur antennas from towers they control...Real bright idea somewhere along the line.

So we will just have to take care of ourselves and the state can figure out how many blankets they need in a shelter instead of relying on amateur radio operators...

Why do you have a Moldovan flag on your home page if you’re in California?

All you people are freaking unreal....Okay...I got it...I live behind enemy lines.. My family, my dog and my two headed turtle deserve to die because I live in California...My life, my business deserves to go belly up because I don’t live in an approved state on your list..

Not posted to me, but you admitted you live, "Behind enemy lines"...And you're worried about what people here are saying? I'd guess if you're doing all that, conducting business behind enemy lines etc., you could seen as aiding and abetting the enemy with your taxes etc.

Simple enough explanation.
Not government sanctioned, operated, or approved.
Therefore, ban it.

That’s you, Sunshine. You blame the forest fires on a power company because the liberals in Kali told you to. Pure ignorance not to know that Kali squandered the forest fighting monies and so easily got you to blame the power company.

No...that is what PG and E workers up at the POE facility on the Feather River said...the ones that witnessed the start of the fire...Really...get a grip...you can have your own truth, but you can’t have your own set of facts.

But not government operated.
With your state now in full communist control, the last vestiges of citizenry must be stripped away.

Yeah, well, luckily the State of California does not supersede the FCC...although they may try it sometime...

Okay, if you have a Moldovan flag and live in California, why do you have a Hawai’ian screen name, boss?

Not to worry, they can bring in people from the Peoples Republic of Venezuela, who have vast experience in power outages, to train the people of the Peoples Republic California.
