PG&E’s power shut-off watch for Northern California: Here’s what you need to know
San Fransicko Chronic ^ | 10/7/2019 | Michael Cabanatuan and Alejandro Serrano

Posted on 10/07/2019 5:52:34 PM PDT by Crazieman

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. said Monday that it might preemptively cut power this week to much of Northern California — including almost all of the Bay Area — to prevent power lines from sparking wildfires during dry and windy weather.

The shut-off watch, covering 29 of the state’s 58 counties, is unprecedented in scope and could grow as forecasts come into focus. Customers in parts of the counties could lose power as soon as Wednesday morning, and the watch extends through Thursday.

Seven of the nine Bay Area counties — all but San Francisco and Marin — were advised of the potential outage, along with the North Coast, the northern parts of the Central Valley and the northern and central Sierra and foothills. The company cited a “potentially widespread, strong and dry wind event.”

A shut-off watch precedes a warning of an actual planned outage.

So tonight, when we have high winds plus feral brush and trees that can’t be removed due to the eco killers.

Yep, you are exactly right. The sole responsibility for the fires is the environmentalists.

Do you know what it was like that day? Wind driven fire...the fire advanced two to three miles ahead of itself. Superheated wind would hit a home...then one of those sparks would hit the house...Kaboom! Trees, shrubbery left standing. The fire burned some 20 miles in about 12 hours.

You're nuts. Kalifornia is a sewer, both environmentally and spiritually and absolutely deserves what it's going to get. Lay off that weed, boy. It's making you stupid.

LA is a dump. As is san fran, oakland, stockton, fresno, sacramento, lodi, to name just a few. That right there shoots your 98% fabrication to pieces. And those are also some of the ugliest places on earth.

Frustrating isn’t it? Living and paying taxes in a state where you have no voice but for whatever reason invested a lifetime. I feel your pain. People here are lashing out because California plays such a big part in forming national politics. Some comments are harsh, they are a backlash to the societal destruction perpetrated by the coastal elites and the money they pour into ruining the constitutional republic that is the last vestige of freedom on earth. It’s hard but try not to take it personal, we’re all on your side.

They are something aren’t they abig.? I lived thru a major fire up here a while back. It was a close call getting out of the mountains. I choose to live up here so oh well for me I guess. The fire was sparked by a downed power line, (from a heavy windstorm), with a VERY quick spreading fire starting on the spot immediately. (One of my neighbors watched the line swaying and then fall and the fire start), reported it, and then called the few folks that live nearby them to get the eff out of here. I do not care to ever see again what I saw that day.

They supply power to areas that are dry and have lots of hills and vegetation.
Then they get sued for starting wildfires.
Not a good situation to be put in as a company.

I am staying here and will laugh and dance whenever misfortune befalls somewhere else other than Butte County, California.

You need to take off the blinders. The ecofacists running your county only allow 6,000 acres of preventive fire (natural or prescribed) during the short safe burn season. See 9.12.6 in https://ww3.arb.ca.gov/drdb/but/curhtml/r300.pdf With over a million acres that need to be managed, that is far to liitle. Those regulations apply to all landowners including federal. Until you remove those insane regulations your county will burn catastrophically every decade or two depending on whatever other management you do (which is not going to be enough)

Knowing that this is God’s natural paradise.

Not any more. It belongs to the ecofacists now.

“Another ignorant poster”

That’s you, Sunshine. You blame the forest fires on a power company because the liberals in Kali told you to. Pure ignorance not to know that Kali squandered the forest fighting monies and so easily got you to blame the power company.

About 2000 square feet. The other reason to have 1000 gallons (preferably 2-3 times that) is heat mass. The house stays at a much more even temperature.

“Do you know what it was like that day?”

Typical child, thinking you, and only you, could possibly know. My area was hit with three massive fires, and we’re always under threat. Try reading about Colorado’s fires and stop thinking that your neighborhood is all the world.

I can commiserate with you. I’m Canadian. The vitriol spewed in my direction by some of our “FRiends” here is quite something to behold.

Funny thing is, on other boards I have been referred to as a “Strong Patriot” by Americans.

Trees, shrubbery left standing.

Exactly right. The housing stock in wine country burned the same way the year before. Houses were a bigger threat to trees, than the trees were to the houses. Of course away from town the overgrown grasses and small shrubs were a big problem and the source of a lot of the embers in the ember storm.

One of the main causes of the fires was the excessive rainfall in 2016-17. That created a lot of grass growth for the 2017 fires and small tree growth for the 2018 fires.

A lot of it was squandered puttng out fires when it was safe to burn. They should also have been setting fires at that point, but the money to do that was redirected.

Canada: America's hat. (credit Chris Plante) We love Canada and California. I've been to California many times and love going there (from Virginia). But here in the eastern US we actually know how to manage land. We burn it, among other thing. But the Californians let the ecofascists take over.

Read this https://www.mdpi.com/2571-6255/2/2/30/htm because it applies to you Canadians too,

“Here’s What You Need To Know”

1. Leftist policies is insanity codified into law, modern liberalism is a clinical psychosis writ large.

Any questions?

It’s primarily the Live Oaks (of the 6 main oak varieties). It’s a friggin weed but in most places here protected.

This variety is the most prevalent with the highest BTU’s of all Calif native woods. Actually the highest bTU wood in the US.

Best (worst) part is you can cut it and burn it green almost immediately in your wood stove.

In our county you have to pay $153 per inch for the right to cut it. $459 an inch if it’s a “heritage oak”. Which only need to be 36” combined diameter of shoots measured at 4 feet off the ground.

As usual, connected people / groups are making money off bogus environmentalism while denying the common sense needed to reduce fire fuel load

The radio ads for “Smokey Bear” says careless campers start wildfires. No mention of this stuff. Whom do we trust?

Also, no mention of Muslims who boasted they would start coordinated fires two years ago-—and oddly patterned fires did happen. Michael Savage had several shows describing his doubts this was natural. As: driest areas in winds didn’t have a fire but four five atypical areas suddenly had them at the same time separately as if with accelerants applied.
