Newt Gingrich: Trump needs to tame anger at Democrats over impeachment
The Washington Times ^ | October 6, 2019 | Dave Boyer

NAGOYA, Japan — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who led the last impeachment of a president, said President Trump can help himself by taming his frustration over the Democrats’ partisan inquiry and staying focused on highlighting his economic achievements for middle-class voters.

Mr. Gingrich points to the example of former President Bill Clinton, the man he helped impeach in 1998, as someone who successfully navigated that difficult path.

“Go back and look at Clinton — he compartmentalized,” Mr. Gingrich said in an exclusive interview. “Clinton was very disciplined about saying, ‘I’m working on the American people’s problems, and I’m not going to talk about that [impeachment].’”

Mr. Gingrich, who has offered advice to Mr. Trump since House Democrats announced the formal impeachment inquiry, said the president “just needs to realize he doesn’t necessarily help his case when he stays on this topic.”

“My advice would be to relax — understand, you’re going to lose [in the House],” Mr. Gingrich said. “I don’t worry at all about Trump getting convicted [in the Republican-majority Senate].”

Mr. Trump spent much of the weekend tweeting his criticism of what he calls the latest Democratic “witch hunt” — the impeachment inquiry focusing on his efforts to persuade Ukraine’s president to investigate Democratic presidential front-runner Joseph R. Biden. He also engaged in a feud with Sen. Mitt Romney, Utah Republican, who has criticized the president’s actions.

“Not only are the Do Nothing Democrats interfering in the 2020 Election, but they are continuing to interfere in the 2016 Election. They must be stopped!” the president tweeted.

The former speaker sat down with The Washington Times to discuss impeachment during a leadership summit in Japan sponsored by the Universal Peace Federation, at which he delivered a keynote address. Mr. Gingrich said the president is understandably resentful...

Go back and look at Clinton — he compartmentalized,” Mr. Gingrich said

Look at Clinton indeed. If he had fought back like Trump is doing, perhaps he wouldn’t have been impeaching.

Shut up Noot.

Trump needs to blitz his agenda and move so fast with so much the left struggles to keep up. Laugh off this impeachment nonsense, get off defense and stay on offense. Trump still has a good shot at getting reelected and THAT will really tick off the dems and enact revenge for the impeachment.

The Republicans in the House and Senate may not like Trump or respect Trump or fear Trump but they live in terror of his base and what that base could do to their reelection chances. They aren’t going to vote to convict.

How dare Gingrich make this comparison. Clinton was guilty. He lied under oath, which is why he was impeached. Trump is not. There is NO parallel.

Say it again Geoff !

No Newt. If the RINOs in the Senate had any fight in them, being stuck between Trump, his base, and the radical left, they would try to head that off. Start holding hearing in preparation for Trial now, get these guys on the record under oath - I mean the whistle blowers, Schifty and every single other witness who tries to pop his head up - right now. Depositions, discovery and then public hearings with first rate lawyers doing the cross examining.

Action wise, I agree. But press conference wise, I dissagree.

It’s probably good that Trump is starting to show some anger.

But he needs to be careful. And he needs to bring the people who have sold out America to justice. I think Trump is on the right path.

The reasons the democrats want him impeached is that Trump is bringing the gravy train to a halt.

One Trump started looking at the Biden corruption, it was only a matter of time until Pelosi’s similar arrangements came out. She has a son drawing down money from a Ukraine energy company too.

It’s going to come out that laundering aid in exchange for paybacks to family is a major way that Democrats have been draining this country.

Paraphrasing “appeal to those that won’t buy into his theatrics”

I would agree EXCEPT, Trump’s approach dwindles support for the nuts. One has to weigh the loss of voters for the nuts against those he might be able to bring over.

I contend that this approach caused more to stay home 2016 on the nut side because no one vetted that witch.

Trump is not only vetting the current nuts, but the corruption, theft, lies, and willful evil throughout government. If the faint hearted focus more on ‘tact’ than ‘substance’, they aren’t worth having......period.

Wow, the chorus of “conservative” wimps is building. Last week it was Glenn Beck, Romney, then Rove, a bit of Coulter, now some Newt. Someone is using their election dog whistle again. Or, perhaps, their payment from the DNC just came through.

Sorry Newt. President Trump is not Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton wasn't bombarded with spies in the White House, fake dossiers, assault from the press, the FBI, CIA, the Courts, etc. When you experience something like that non-stop for over three years, then come back and maybe you'll be ready to give some advice. The President has every right to be angry, and to fight back whatever way he wants.

Newt may have given advice, but Trump hired Kellyanne Conway in the summer of 2016. I think she had a great deal to do with getting the campaign back on track.

Newt is so wrong. Clinton had the Democrat Media Empire to do his bidding.

Trump has only himself.
