NAGOYA, Japan Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who led the last impeachment of a president, said President Trump can help himself by taming his frustration over the Democrats partisan inquiry and staying focused on highlighting his economic achievements for middle-class voters.
Mr. Gingrich points to the example of former President Bill Clinton, the man he helped impeach in 1998, as someone who successfully navigated that difficult path.
Go back and look at Clinton he compartmentalized, Mr. Gingrich said in an exclusive interview. Clinton was very disciplined about saying, Im working on the American peoples problems, and Im not going to talk about that [impeachment].
Mr. Gingrich, who has offered advice to Mr. Trump since House Democrats announced the formal impeachment inquiry, said the president just needs to realize he doesnt necessarily help his case when he stays on this topic.
My advice would be to relax understand, youre going to lose [in the House], Mr. Gingrich said. I dont worry at all about Trump getting convicted [in the Republican-majority Senate].
Mr. Trump spent much of the weekend tweeting his criticism of what he calls the latest Democratic witch hunt the impeachment inquiry focusing on his efforts to persuade Ukraines president to investigate Democratic presidential front-runner Joseph R. Biden. He also engaged in a feud with Sen. Mitt Romney, Utah Republican, who has criticized the presidents actions.
Not only are the Do Nothing Democrats interfering in the 2020 Election, but they are continuing to interfere in the 2016 Election. They must be stopped! the president tweeted.
The former speaker sat down with The Washington Times to discuss impeachment during a leadership summit in Japan sponsored by the Universal Peace Federation, at which he delivered a keynote address. Mr. Gingrich said the president is understandably resentful...

Don’t listen to Newt Mr. President, give those commies hell!
There’s a difference. The Dems had Clintons back. Some unknown numbers of Republicans, including some who usually vote right, are quislings.
Oh Newt...just go sit on the sofa with Nancy and be quiet.
Trumps continuing to delegitimize the House situation, unlike what Clinton could do with his own legitimate sexual issues.
Go Trump! Newts an idiot!
Psst... Newt, dude, listen... WE’RE PISSED OFF. You know, the voting public who is sick and tired of the endless ‘Russia investigation’ and now blaming Trump for Biden’s extortion...
So, yeah, his being pissed off about YET ANOTHER bull investigation is very much reflecting MY viewpoint.
Ah i’m not smart enough to know what he should do
In his defense, Newt has never seen a Republican fight back.
He doesn’t know what it looks like.
Clinton didn’t ‘compartmentalize.’ That was risible contemporary Clinton White House spin and Newt should know better.
The truth is that Clinton was obsessed with his entirely self-made predicament as books and articles later revealed. He was worried - obviously - about legal jeopardy and just as worried about his political viability as his infamous remarks to pollster Dick Morris demonstrated. Hillary was equally obsessed since she was a coattail passenger.
If historian Newt wants to offer Trump some historical advice then Newt can and should work a bit harder than to offer up Clintonian tosh.
Newt’s advice is to go on a cruise during the middle of a campaign.
More advice, more garbage......no I did not read the article. BECAUSE.....appeasement never works with the dishonest.
This is a culture war and only Trump is fighting.
I recommend advising the GOP to put on their big boy pants and putting voters first instead of their own butt.
Without Trump, America would not have seen the mass corruption in DC. One cant expose snakes if they dont bother to drag them out into the sunlight kicking and screaming. And those offering advice are still willfully blind to the filth in both parties.
Go sit on a couch with Nanzi, Newt.
Not going to happen.
“Theres a difference. The Dems had Clintons back. Some unknown numbers of Republicans, including some who usually vote right, are quislings.”
Clinton also had the media on his side.
No doubt, but it's far less than the 20 needed to vote to impeach.

Oh go hold hands with Mme. Bobblehead
The dems and at least 5 RINO’s had Clinton’s back. Right now if the impeachment came to a vote he would be impeached. In the senate trial he would most likely not be convicted, but that’s now, if the trial comes next spring he might lose 9-10 RINO’s. It will be a nail biter.
Please RNC, not one dime to any republican’s re-election campaign if they vote for impeachment or conviction.
Dear President Trump:
Roast and toast these rascal donkeys!
