Sorry, Dems: It’s OK to ask for foreign help in a criminal justice investigation
NY Post ^ | October 4, 2019 | Marc Thiessen

President Trump’s critics are now complaining that he asked the Australian prime minister to cooperate with the Justice Department’s investigation into the origins of the Mueller probe and that Attorney General William Barr has traveled overseas to ask foreign intelligence officials to cooperate with that investigation. The New York Times called it another example of “the president using high-level diplomacy to advance his personal political interests.”

No, it’s not. The president’s critics are conflating two different things: the investigation by Trump’s private lawyer, Rudolph Giuliani, into Hunter Biden’s business dealings, and the inquiry by US Attorney John Durham into the counterintelligence investigation directed at the Trump campaign during the 2016 election. The former is opposition-research activity; the latter is a criminal-justice matter.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking foreign heads of state or intelligence officials to cooperate with an official Justice Department investigation.

As George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley explains, “It is not uncommon for an attorney general, or even a president, to ask foreign leaders to assist with ongoing investigations. Such calls can shortcut bureaucratic red tape, particularly if the evidence is held, as in this case, by national security or justice officials.”

Americans support the Durham probe. For two years, they were told by Trump’s opponents that the president was “working on behalf of the Russians” and had committed “treasonous” acts that were of “a size and scope probably beyond Watergate.” Those were serious accusations, and Americans took them seriously. They waited for special counsel Robert Mueller to tell them whether the president had indeed betrayed the country.

Then Mueller issued his report, and they found out that none of it was true. They understandably wanted answers.

Correct! and the FACT That AG Barr PERSONALLY went to these Countries to conduct Interviews and Investigations, tells me that something very very serious criminally happened, I have NEVER seen the Actual AG Investigate and Question witnesses in a Formal Investigation, and he has Durham with him helping. If I were any of the players in the Seditious Conspiracy to Overthrow the United States Government, I would be scared shitless about now

We all know that. What’s interesting is that Barr went himself. That’s kind of a big deal.

That’s why the Predident was not seeking “dirt”. It would be dirt only if Biden had a right to keep the information secret (as Trump does with his tax returns) or the evidence was fake.

So let me get this straight ...

The Democrats and their RINO enablers have spent 3+ years running around telling us how critical it is to "investigate foreign interference in the 2016 election," but then it's suddenly a problem when President Trump reaches out to Ukraine's government to do EXACTLY what they demanded?

LOL.

"Sorry, Dems: It’s OK to ask for foreign help in a criminal justice investigation..."

.... OK .... So we know that ..... But a whole giant swath of America sure doesn't and may never know that.......

.... As the old saying goes .... "Perception is Reality"..... So .... Heck .... The President or Rudy needs to have a press conference to issue a well delivered statement drawn up by Trumps legal advisers to articulately and succinctly explain and lay down the background and reason for these phone calls and investigations.

..... There is too much subterfuge, lies, and confusion out there for the simple electorate to follow. The Democrats are relying on these lies and confusion to distract from other important issues that are being lost in this political fog of war.

I understand that the US has treaties allowing mutual legal assistance in criminal matters with Ukraine and China.

“Treaty with Ukraine on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters”

Treaty Document 106-16. Approved in 1999 under President Clinton.

In Senate records and downloadable as a PDF - 31 pages.

Authorizes mutual assistance in criminal investigations.

Trump needs to rub this law in their faces. He's following the law, not violating it.

This fine article by Mr. Thiesson in the New York Post has an unusual and totally unexpected credit at the bottom: ©2019, The Washington Post Writers Group. We are just starting to see some support and investigation from the Washington Post and New York Times into all the Obama / Biden corruption.

Schiff made himself a “fact witness” when he revealed his office had contact with the Trump-Ukraine whistleblower.

Schiff is in the legal evidentiary chain for events surrounding this whistleblower.

Republicans should make him testify.
