CHARLOTTE, N.C. The former head of North Carolinas Republican Party formally pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday for his role in one of the states biggest political corruption cases.
Former GOP Chairman Robin Hayes agreed to plead guilty to lying to federal investigators. He faces up to six months in prison, though prosecutors are likely to ask for less time. No sentencing date has been set.
Hayes, 74, is a Concord native who served in Congress for a decade. The former lawmaker also once ran for governor.
He was one of four men indicted in March on multiple charges of conspiracy and bribery. Also indicted were Durham businessman Greg Lindberg and two associates, John Gray and John Palermo. All four pleaded not guilty at the time.

Here we put the party affiliation right in the headline.
Hes a Republican and right there in the headline, they mention his party affiliation.
Had he been a Democrat, they would have never mentioned his party.
6 months isn’t a long sentence if it is the biggest criminal conspiracy corruption case evah.
And do not mention the party affiliation of the other three?
Isn’t it curious how the police can lie to citizens, per the Supreme Court, but if you lie to them you go to jail?
What? They punish people for lying to the FBI? When did this start?
I haven’t heard of any democrats being charged with anything lately.
Which makes one wonder, why would anyone ever talk to the police? I guess the only reason to talk to the FBI is to snitch on someone else, in order to avoid jail time.
Because Democrat lies aren’t considered lies to them.
> why would anyone ever talk to the police? <
In case anyone hasnt seen it, here is an excellent video, Dont Talk to the Police. Its a lecture given by a law professor. Its both interesting and informative.
He even explains how you can get into trouble when youre innocent, and everything you say is true.
Jail him. He needs to experience the joys of anal sex.
Jail him. He needs to experience the joys of anal sex.
Lying to the FBI should not be a crime anymore.
It is remarkable how FBI efficiency improves when a repub is the target.
There must be a better word for it than “remarkable”.
I met Hayes when he ran for governor, he was a decent conservative, personable too. He didn’t win; Jim Hunt beat him. He eventually won an NC Congressional seat. His last job was as chair of the NC GOP, so I have no problem with the article mentioning that.
This is sad. The Insurance Commisioner he was accused of attempting to bribe is GOP. I’ve met him too, and he was decent conservative. Politics has bad apples in it in both parties.
Not sure what got into Hayes’ head.
“...experience the joys of anal sex...”

Anal sex is a joy?
Do you know this from personal experience?
Well, I’m sorry he is a Repubelikan.
But given what we now know about the massive corruption at the FBI, lying to them shouldn’t be a crime.... It should be a requirement.
