Singapore's new law to combat "fake news" came into effect Wednesday despite criticism from tech giants and activists, who labelled the tough rules a "chilling" attempt to stifle dissent.
The law gives government ministers powers to order social media sites to put warnings next to posts authorities deem to be false, and in extreme cases get them taken down.

Dirty Dan Ratherbiased should be rotting in a prison for his election eve fraud.
Common Sense Licensing and Regulations on Commercial Speech for Compensation or Gain.
I support it, I want it, and I want Trump to get another term since his first one was stolen.
In the US no such law is needed. If the left (new state) doesnt like what youre saying Big Social Media just bans you and you are never heard of again. Remember a guy named James Woods?
So they banned CNN International? Smuggled in copies of the NY Times and Washington Compost should warrant the death penalty!
That's a good laugh! Tech giants, activists, and the media all know about stifling dissent.
Get caught selling drugs on Tuesday, hang at Changi on Friday. (Seriously ... these people are not folks to “mess with.”
So Comcast, Disney, and ATT are to leave Singapore...
I spent a few vacation days in Singapore in 2014. Safest city of all the big cities I have been to, and that number is large having visited 36 countries and 49 states. I would move there if we get a socialist democrat elected here, but very difficult to get a permanent resident visa in Singapore.
Not that difficult. But Singaporeans tend to be very nationalistic due to Communist China and India flooding the country with low-quality technical workers, similar to the H1B scum coming into the USA.
Indian Indians tend to riot a lot there as well and love to rape locals and foreign domestic workers from Indonesia and the Philippines.
Muslim Malays have special privileges. Halal crap food all over the place.
The Singaporean PR is not difficult, but you will pay 35% of your wages into CPF.
Forget about driving. The COE (permission to own a vehicle) costs well more than the vehicle itself.
That is not what I found out when I was in Singapore. There were no riots anywhere, great food from many countries. I enjoyed Indian restaurants, Arab restaurants, Chinese restaurants in Singapore.
The foreign workers can only stay 2 years. Then they MUST leave Singapore and re-apply for the 2 year work visa. From what I heard foreign workers love the higher wages in Singapore and avoid getting in trouble because then they are black listed for life and can never come back.
Speaking of rapes, US has one of the highest rape rate per capita of any industrialized country. And the highest armed robbery rate.
That is not the case with H1-B visa workers in US, who do not need to leave the country to extend the visa.
What impressed me was having to have proof of your exit that matched your visa. If you didnt show the return ticket, you didnt get in.
Tell me about it....I got a long long story about that I have American passport and tourist visa not required in Singapore, but my friend had to prove that she had a airline ticket to fly out of Singapore via interview with the immigration officer.
