A federal appeals court on Tuesday delivered a mixed ruling for net neutrality supporters and opponents alike, allowing the Federal Communications Commission's 2017 repeal to stand but striking down a provision blocking states from implementing their own open internet rules.
The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals also ordered the FCC to revise the repeal order to take into consideration other issues, like the effect that it will have on public safety.
The FCC decided to repeal the Obama-era net neutrality rules in 2017 with the Republicans on the commission carrying the 3-2 vote along party lines.
The rules classified internet service providers like Comcast and Verizon as common carriers, subjecting them to tougher regulations and oversight, and prohibited them from blocking or discriminating against certain websites.

It looks like "public safety" will be used as the next drive for Obama era 'net neutrality' regulations.
The article also hides who brought the lawsuit but I believe these people may be involved:
How can a state regulate the internet????
IF the states can make their OWN internet laws, then it’s a utility.................
Same way they can regulate the electric grid.............
In a nutshell, everything not articulated in the Constitution and Bill of Rights is relegated (supposed to be, anyway) to the states.
see Post #6
Many countries do it every day. Some are worse than others............
I was afraid all this would happen.
We get suckered into talking about something, WE develop the language that gets used against us and here we are.
Like Satan and Job .... he can't kill Job but he has God's permission to hassle the crap out of him.
(Please don't deteriorate this thread, but ... the present impeachment crap is an excellent example of how they will use words to trap us)
I thought federal statutes override states.
Cool. So suddenly the left respects states rights? Great....traditional marriage can be protected!
Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Is that the goal here?
A patchwork of state laws will not improve safety, privacy and speed of the Internet. The regulation should be at the federal level and only after the agency consults knowledgable IT specialists in industry and providers as to needs and will the proposed regulation be effective. State legislators and most congresscritters know as much about Internet protocols and engineering IT codes as a 3 month-old human baby.
Husseins gig on Netflix is a big THANK YOU for allowing the streaming service to hog something like 70% of the country’s bandwidth for practically FREE allowing them to grow into the giant company they are today.
Thank you barrack!!!
The Internet is, by its very nature, interstate commerce. How can this group of judges think that such a thing can be capable of being broken up into state-by-state regulatory fiefdoms? It really is not possible. Do they really think it possible for Illinois and New York to have different bandwidth regulations than Kansas and Oklahoma for various customers of a nationwide ISP? How about if those customers are connecting to that ISP through a mobile device in another state, or using a VPN located in another state than where they reside? Please tell me how they are going to regulate that? How about if the customer has his business located in one state but his cloud storage in another, while his processing is done in yet a third state? Entirely possible in this day of remote connections.
NY lawmakers craft net neutrality bill
Guess folks ain't fleeing the state fast enough for Albany...
When we escape from NYS, we won’t be moving to any state that shoves net neutrality down residents’ throats...
