Trump Pressed Australian Leader to Help Barr Investigate Mueller Inquiry’s Origins
NYT ^ | 09/30/19 | Mark Mazzetti and Katie Benner

Posted on 09/30/2019 1:48:42 PM PDT by yesthatjallen

The discussion was another instance of the president using American diplomacy for potential personal gain.

President Trump pushed the Australian prime minister during a recent telephone call to help Attorney General William P. Barr gather information for a Justice Department inquiry that Mr. Trump hopes will discredit the Mueller investigation, according to two American officials with knowledge of the call.

The White House restricted access to the call’s transcript to a small group of the president’s aides, one of the officials said, an unusual decision that is similar to the handling of a July call with the Ukrainian president that is at the heart of House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry into Mr. Trump. Like that call, the discussion with Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia shows the extent to which Mr. Trump sees the attorney general as a critical partner in his goal to show that the Mueller investigation had corrupt and partisan origins, and the extent that Mr. Trump sees the Justice Department inquiry as a potential way to gain leverage over America’s closest allies.

And like the call with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, the discussion with Mr. Morrison shows the president using high-level diplomacy to advance his personal political interests.

The Democrat’s strategy is to present anything Trump does as illegal and expect half or more of the populace to not know better.

Bingo!

They have no concept on how pissed off the average American is at them. They also don’t get it how much derision is for them amongst law enforcement and the military. The French Aristocrats of 1788 behaved in a similar fashion and brought the Reign of Terror upon themselves.

Of course it's not news.

It's the construction of a NEW NARRATIVE.

I see where they are going now. It is a conflict of interest for Trump to investigate his accusers as the chief law enforcement officer of the US. They are going to say he should have recused himself.

this is politics pure and simple...and they are swinging for the fences. Trump gave the perfect answer to all this last week...and he hasnt said it since...about giving money to corrupt nations before making sure whats what. Phil Mudd on CNN said it flat out..the President is the sole authority on foreign policy and hes a Trump hater...needless to say, he hasnt been on the air since. This is policy and messaging, and right now the dems are winning.

Another leak of a highly classified POTUS head of state conversation? Why are GOP Senate subpoenas not raining on the Deep State? This is insane.

exactly right..just scream that everything is abuse of power...im sorry, but Trump simply doesnt know the law and acts at times like he doesnt even know his own power...he needs to listen to some people that know this stuff...

Completely legal and normal, in fact part if the Executive branch duty.

The Democrat’s strategy is to present anything Trump does as illegal and expect half or more of the populace to not know better.

Yep. The Dem strategy hinges on the GOP Senate doing nothing. Biden Jr. taking the 5th and melting like Mueller did and this is all over. The GOP Senate could end this right now if they wanted to by pursuing the Deep State coupists. Curiously, they do not. Very curiously.

Impeachment without removal from office by senate is same as premature withdrawal. It has no lasting effect.

Note the Rats need 20 senate republicans to defect. How realistic is that?

Not at all. Assaulting POTUS and those who support him for the next year with an impeachment circus greatly benefits the Uniparty.

How are the Dems winning? Every time the media goes out to the public the support for Trump is greater than ever.
They are doing what they’ve been doing for 3+ years and it’s still not killing Trump.
Sure, the House can impeach, no way the Senate does though.
Let this play out like every previous “scandal”. Trump hasn’t played all his cards yet and the People are with him.

Unbelievable. These people are hell bent on starting a shooting war.

Hard to see that happening when only one side is fighting. We’ve been outflanked. The GOP is participating in the Deep State coup and half or more of the informed people here can’t see it. So you can forget mushy middle suburban women getting it. Normalcy bias reigns, unfortunately.

Why is it necessary to refer to some article from Drudge as from that “faggot”? I think your comment detracts from the conversation. How about you just let your disagreement stand on its own without the disparaging reference to Drudge?
