Ted Cruz took issue with Trump's call with Ukraine's president, but he expected it to be worse

While U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz expressed unhappiness Saturday with some of Donald Trump's comments related to the president's call with Ukraine's leader, the Texas Republican emphatically pushed back against the Democratic movement to impeach the commander in chief.

Cruz said that he had read both the recently released whistleblower complaint and the readout of Trump's July phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, both of which characterize Trump as soliciting the Ukrainian government's assistance in investigating unsubstantiated allegations against the business activities of former Vice President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden.

"I expected it to be" worse than it was, Cruz said of the phone call summary. He made the remarks in a Texas Tribune Festival interview with MSNBC Host Chris Hayes.

But, he said, he found the president's comments on Biden to be troubling. On the call with Zelensky, Trump said there was talk that Biden had called for the firing of a Ukrainian prosecutor who was investigating his son.

"I would have wished the president have not gone down that road," Cruz said.

"Donald Trump says things frequently that I wish he wouldn't say," he elaborated. "I don't have control over that. The fact that he shouldn't have gone down that road is a long way from saying, 'Therefore, he should be impeached and forcibly removed from office after the American people have voted in a presidential election.'

I see. And how does our favorite Cubanadian feel about the newly uncovered and massive conspiracy inside the IC to obstruct and impeach the duly elected President of the United States?

Apparently, Senator Ted Cruz is just a bystander to history. We can only take his silence regarding the ongoing Deep State coup as approval.

Cruz - MSNBC - Chris Hayes.

someone on FR suggested yesterday that it was time to demand an end to the non-stop attacks on the President. I agree. this refusal to accept the results of the 2016 election, or to afford the President any respect, is damaging the US’s reputation.

it’s especially shocking when Republicans can’t resist making pronouncements over every utterance or decision by the President. get on with looking after your own constituents, Cruz.

Cruz is 99 percent better than the opponent he beat, the drunken billionaire Patrick O’Rourke. What I will say is I view this as Trump taking a chance - Biden was on camera, bragging that he shut down the prosecution of his no-account son Hunter. The media showed NO interest and even though several of them don’t seem to even know what he did, they are defending him. T

The media? The GOP has shown even less interest than the media in perusing Biden Jr. How amazing is that?

Cruz is a sitting United States Senator. He should be publicly demanding his GOP controlled body take action. Yet here he acts a bystander to history. It’s a remarkable act of cowardice.

Cruz is a Bushbot using the Tea Party as a schtick.

Correct. When Cruz’s POTUS campaign was on the rocks who did he hire? Neil Bush. When the race was down to Cruz and Trump who did the Never Trump Deep State prefer? Cruz. He is controlled opposition to the GOPe and nothing more.

Not only did Cruz blame Trump for the assault of GOP voters he never apologized for those smears when it was reported to be organized Democrat party violence.

He can throw his hat, his jacket and his pants in the ring, he isn’t getting elected.

The president is the head of the Federal Government. The president IS responsible for the enforcement of our Federal laws. It would have been a dereliction of the president's duties NOT to address the legitimate Biden corruption issue with Ukraine.

Exactly so.

Re: 11
Ted Cruz took issue with voters attending Trump’s Chicago Rally during the primary. Said Trump and the voters brought the physical attacking thugs on.

And that was the day/night I flipped from supporting Cruz to supporting President Trump. I admit that I was in the process of warming up to Trump before that Rally - but that was the event that made my choice clear. Yes, politics is a nasty business (with the candidates throwing mud at each other), but when you clearly had Bolsheviks trying to intimidate Americans, and to shutdown a Trump Rally -- and then have Cruz trying to claim a moral equivalence between Trump's supporters and the Bolsheviks - it was a bridge too far. It was wrong. You never support people trying to destroy your Country. And that is what Cruz did in an attempt to win some Primary brownie points.

I used to like Cruz, but the more he talked on issues the less I liked him. By 2016, I was done with him and supported Trump. Never looked back.
The Biden road should be gone down.It will lead to Obama eventually.

Well, I was once one of Ted’s most loyal and ardent supporters.

When it comes to the law and the Constitution, there are not many that can match him.

But when it comes to image, he’s got a lot to learn.

He doesn’t need to comment on what the President says or doesn’t say. He needs to be prodding the Senate to get after deep state crime.

Today, it was disclosed that the whistleblower’s complaint had footnotes with mention of funding by Soros. Soros is a US Citizen although it’s hard to believe that. Cruz should be calling for the Senate to subpoena Soros. He should tell the pests in the press when they ask for his comment on the President’s talk with Ukraine that there is nothing there but there is something on Soros, Biden, and others.

Ted is tone-deaf when it comes to public statements and image.

Even when he blamed Trump for the violent protests at his Chicago rally?

Ted was previously proclaimed to be Constitutional expert.

A Constitutional expert would know the eligibility requirements to hold the office of President.

If he knew, and ran anyway what does that say about his character?

That is not a law debate, that is politics and he sucks at it.

It’s the reason I wish he would be replaced and go teach law somewhere.

He should have beat O’Dork by 30 points. The fact that Texans almost voted in O’Dork reveals they are not happy with this guy.

If he wants to remain a US Senator, he should lie low when it comes to commenting on Trump and be loud and vocal when it comes to the Constitution particularly the 2nd Amendment which he’s good at.

He knew (or he is a Constitutional idiot) and it doesn’t say much for his character.

Ted is all about Ted.

His ambition comes before the Constitution.

I think the Senate creatures are a group that believe they are far above reproach. It’s a special club or fraternity, I’d rather use cult, and they will at all costs protect each other (uniparty) including those that have retired i.e. Biden.
Sessions is one example in this as I think he recused himself at the behest of his Senate buddies (Russia gate was already in the works)and then he sat back and became a blocker sort of speak. McCain is another as being someone as being someone as untouchable.
I think the Rep. Senators are acting silent or using the talking point of “I didn’t really like what he said” as they are trying to avoid being exposed.
Biden could spill the beans on all of it.

Politicians are worried that Trump’s investigation will start a trend of going after kick back /graft and nepotism...the life blood of DC and liberal politicians.

Excellent!

Well, many of us agree that Trump should say those things. That’s why he is President and you are not Ted.
