This assumes of course assumes that the spines of the senate remain firm which is too much to ask.

As long as Mitch lets Trump defend himself.

How many in D.C. actually want Trump to win?

Unfortunately Trump has pissed off a lot of senators by bad mouthing their sainted selves. Will these senators be patriots or will they only care about revenge?

"the Republicans will vote unanimously, " (Not to convict in the Seaate)

Sure about that?

This has already been debunked in other post as a non-existing person. Second, the Congress and SCOTUS control the trail in the senate. There is no way the republicans are going to let Trump interview whoever he wants without direct evidence. Hearsay evideance can only be used against Trump, not the other way around. Add to that, barr has not done anything to expose the last coup attempt. This is a political process, not a legal one. Trump has no allies other then us, his voters. They will remove Trump, watch.

I feel sure that Romney will vote to convict. He would convict Trump for using a potato peeler the wrong way, even if he didn’t.

I voted for Romney and McCain. They were the better of two bad options, but I didn’t realize how bad they were. Trump has shown us that no politicians can be trusted.

Personally, I don't think it will get that far.

The Dems in congress will just keep "investigating" through the 2020 general election on the theory that this get them re-elected and will help their candidate.

I'm not even sure there are contingency plans beyond that.

Point #3: “...a lot of democrats will start being charged and going to prison...”

This will never happen. IMO

Lots of wishful thinking in Hyram's article, the most important of which is this...
...phase 2 is a trial in and by the Senate, where he has zero chance of conviction. Remember, the Senate is controlled by Republicans...
If the generic "Republicans" in both the House and Senate had risen to a spirited defense of Trump, America, and the Rule of Law the past 3 years, I would have more confidence in his prognostication. But there are hardly any Republican stalwarts in either House that can really break counted on.

I don’t trust the Republicans as far as I can throw them.

They are liars. All of them.

No way to stop the communists Democrats with impeachment but I agree with what the trial in the Senate will be and result. Many communists Democrats better hope the impeachment in the House will happen. Personally I hope it goes to the Senate and finally, without much help from many Republicans we will see justice. President Trump will be reelected and the communists will still try to get Trump another way.

Hillary's IT staffer was granted immunity from testifying but still plead the 5th over 125 consecutive times........

Nothing will come of this trial other than no impeachment.

The fact is the trial can be about whether Trump was falsely accused and can get into the “whistleblower” report and also whether the Bidens were in fact engaged in unethical behavior. Make the trial about the Democrats and the Bidens.

However, during the trial, and this is what no one is thinking about right now, the President's attorneys will have the right to subpoena and question ANYONE THEY WANT.

I think this person presumes too much.

Impeachment and trial are nothing more than additional procedures in each chamber, and the Constitution says that each chamber makes its own rules. This applies to impeachment and trial, too.

The author assumes that the trial will operate like a criminal trial in a court of law. That is not true. The President might not get an open-ended opportunity to call witnesses. The calling of witnesses is just another "rule" that the Senators (alone) will negotiate before the trial begins.

The minority will fight hard to prevent the President from calling witnesses at all. The (weak and feckless) majority will likely give in and limit the number (and subject) of witness that Trump may call. They may even limit the number of days the President has to defend himself. They may even limit who can represent him.

In other words, the Senators can stack the trial any way they want to, as it is nothing more than another "rule" in their chamber.

It is not a sure thing that Trump will get a fair opportunity to defend himself.

All nice in theory, but I have no confidence there is a competent Senator to act as lead questioning Attorney. Now if the Republicans can farm that out, then a big maybe this might be how it unfolds.

Deals will start being made, and suddenly, a lot of democrats will start being charged and going to prison.

That's good, if someone can be found to charge them.
