Jimmy Carter got advice from his teenage daughter.
Let’s see how the old electric charging biz is doing this time next year.
The liberals do not understand that the electricity to charge an electric car , has to be generated in a power plant.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Electricity comes out of the wall outlet. Everybody knows that. DUH!!!!
Takoma Park banned nuclear weapons.
“A nudge from his daughter was the final step in convincing Doley to make the switch to EV charging.”
well that and $800,000 in free taxpayer money:
“The gas station conversion was jointly funded by the Electric Vehicle Institute and the Maryland Energy Administration, which provided a grant of $786,000.”
I think a new form of filling station will be generated.
Similar to the BIG interstate filling stations, which are all around.
Similarly, there will be huge recharging stations, with row after row, after row of charging available. Away from cities, where land is much cheaper.
This guy may be cutting-edge.
Or his station, may not succeed in this venture, because his filling station may not have the physical requirements.
We shall see.
“Well at least this liberal is putting his livelihood where his mouth is.”
not really. he had a failing gas station that got $800,000 of free taxpayer money to make the conversion.
see my post:
Well that’s the conversion. A person’s livelihood requires income.
“Whenever I want business advice, I always listen to a 17 year old girl.”
Why not? The whole freakin UN has been listening to a 16 year old this week. I can only imagine how sage and wise a 17 year old must be!
so that means they can service wut... 12 cars an hour???
Who’s Mr Foley?
LOL!!
How much does a charge cost? Is it measured by time?
Doley
Sorry that becomes Foley, with auto-correct.
:)
I know this is a fools errand but I am try8ng to figure out the economics of this.
1. The conversion from gas station to electric charging station cost was from a $786,000 grant. What the hell did they spend almost $800,000 on?
2. If the charging takes about 30 minutes and they can charge 4 cars at a time, that is a maximum of 8 cars per hour. How much would you have to charge for a charge to be profitable?
I dont think they will be able to make enough to even pay the mortgage or rent on the station unless the government continues to subsidize.
Let’s see....it takes about 5 hours to charge a prius prime on 110/120 volts; 2 1/2 hours on 240. That’s a lot of people hanging around.....just waiting. Will he be adding a restaurant, a movie theater to keep them occupied? I don’t see a bright future for this venture.
I get the feeling his daughter did not do any math on this idea. I hope she is not depending on an inheritance.
kwhrs, but it’ll prolly take at least 30min to get a usable charge and it looks like they can service six cars at a time
Onefree extension cord with each fill up - excuse me, charge.
Had to laugh at a gas station in Fairbanks Alaska I saw last month.
The big sign out front was modified to say “Grass Station” as it was a pot shop. Reminded me of Cheech & Chong’s “Nice Dreams” on the “ice cream” truck.
