My dad was an Electrical Engineer...from “least likely to succeed” in a small town Nebraska school, he went on to get BS in EE. He worked hard and a good living. I encouraged our kids to go into STEM fields...back in a time when here still were good jobs to be had...
At this point, can’t say I would recommend STEM careers to teens doing career exploration....
Sadly, I fear it is going to become increasingly difficult for the rising generation to find careers that will provide a good middle class living.

But there are just a few threads just yesterday calling for Indians replacing Americans as it was thought Americans were too stupid and Indians somehow superior to us Crack and Marijuana smoking Americans, and somehow Indians are superior to every other 193 countries in the world.
Short memory here?
My kids are all STEM grads..They don’t use Crack or smoke dope...All have or are working on advanced degrees, and all would say their wages and opportunities have been tamped down due to the influx of cheap foreign labor. This problem actually starts in college—US has allowed UNLIMITED FOREIGN STUDENT VISAS...and then there are internship programs that promote hiring of recent foreign STEM grads over US grads...
We protect steel workers’ jobs, why not IT workers?

There does not appear to be an organized lobby for US families with parents working in technology or students studying technology, nor is there a lobby for recent tech grads or experienced tech workers...Yet not only are there tech titan lobbies, now the Indians both here and in India have formed lobbies, and our elected “representatives” get richer and richer :/
... and the American middle class gets f*cked. Americans fired en-masse and replaced by know-nothing, cheating, lying racist Indians. With Indian body ships controlling a near 100% majority of contractor positions (that’s really the only why to get hired today), and Indian hiring managers controlling full-time direct hire positions, what is a American to do? Shovel shit?
Ageism was always a problem in industry. Now Americans are expected to compete with cheap Indians that might have taken a 6 month online course, live 4 to 6 per room, and get hired due to extreme Indian nepotism and racism. While an American with decades of experience, multiple degrees in the field, and a family gets benched.
Well, I guess now we know what Google wants to have happen.

Remember back in the first days of the internet? I do...When companies begging for people who were good at coding and hardware.,..Companies were taking in STEM workers who had not even finished college? And now many STEM students are finding it increasingly difficult to get good STEM jobs or if they do, the pay is far less than should be for their expertise...As I said, now I would probably not be recommending it as a career if I had kids in high school...eh maybe hardware because foreign workers don’t have nearly as much access to train on state-of-art hardware off shore tho I suspect that is changing too with so many companies establishing a presence in Bangalore...
Sad change from back in the days when mine went to college...
My spouse works with people here and people in India...says managers in India are only making $30,000...Guess that may be an inflated salary...
Again, why do we not protect STEM students and STEM professionals, yet we protect steel workers?!?

Don’t kid yourself David Perdue spent his whole corporate career outsourcing. He’s a card carrying RINO POS who is also backing gun control. Its almost worth losing his seat to a Democrat for six years to get rid of him.
