Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is endorsing a progressive candidate seeking to oust Rep. Daniel Lipinski, a moderate Illinois Democrat, The New York Times reported Tuesday.
Marie Newman is backed by Justice Democrats, the group that supported Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign in 2018. Newman, a businesswoman, also ran in 2018 against Lipinski and lost by about 2,000 votes. Ocasio-Cortez is walking a fine-line as she seeks to knock off a fellow House Democrat in a blue state.
“Marie Newman is a textbook example of one of the ways that we could be better as a party - to come from a deep blue seat and to be championing all the issues we need to be championing,” Ocasio-Cortez told the NYT.
“The fact that a deep blue seat is advocating for many parts of the Republican agenda is extremely problematic. We’re not talking about a swing state that is being forced to take tough votes,” the New York Democrat said of Lipinski, who’s district voted for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The conventional wisdom would be that Newman’s support has grown just enuf that, 2 years later, Lipinski is likely ousted.

Unfortunately, the left wing radical “justice Democrats” won elections for the Chicago City Council and two Illinois Congressional seats. Dan Lipinski is a decent guy who will be forced to retire or will lose in the primary. His district has changed from ethnic working class to majority Spanish speaking.
Lipinski may be better off switching parties.

This is coming from Lipinski’s NO vote on HB 19 which promoted and favored the Pervocrats position on allowing males to compete as females in collegiate sport activities. Much of his former district was the city of Chicago wards where areas which were “hispanic” went to Gutieriez while his ward organization (23rd) was disassembled by redistricting to accommodate the demographic changes (hispanic to black) in the 14th, Edmund Burke’s ward.
Demography is destiny.
