The mere fact that someone named Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani is permitted to work as an airline mechanic baffles me. I thought we had learned a few things since 9/11.
The mechanics should be vetted and above reproach.
That said, the weak link on the 737 Max was the automatic overcorrection of attitude, forcing the nose down by automatically driving the stabilizer.
If this plane was one of the regular, pre-MAX variety, would that have been possible, even if the velocity indicators were off?

Every time I fly somewhere I am struck by how the airport staff in all positions seems to be disproportionately high in people who appear to be of Arabic or other middle-eastern origin or ethnicity. I assume these are sleepers.
Anybody else observe that?
