Center-left candidate Benny Gantz declares victory over Benjamin Netanyahu in the Israeli elections, and is rejecting the prime ministers call for negotiations over leading the government.
Gantz issued a statement Thursday saying, I am interested in and intend to form a broad and liberal unity government under my leadership. He also said, the process of building a government has begun, and we will not be dictated to.
This comes after Netanyahu offered to build a broad coalition government with Gantz amid a tight election. Netanyahu proposed a rotating premiership among the two leaders.
The people chose unity, the people want for Israel to be before everything, stated the prime minister. And therefore, Blue and White under my leadership won the elections Blue and White is the biggest party.
The two must sides must now come together to form a coalition government or else face an unprecedented third election.

Damn shame. Bibi was a one in a million leader that earned worldwide respect. Maybe in a few years he can make a triumphant return?
In all parliamentary systems you have to have a majority of parliament in order to form a government. This year, Netanyahu has not been able to get to the required 61 members of parliament supporting him in order to form a government.
It remains to be seen if Netanyahus chief opponent Benny Gantz can get to 61 seats in coalition with other parties.
Didnt Netanyahu just win an election a few months ago? Why another one so soon?
He didnt have enough support from the smaller parties to reach the required 61 seat majority in the Israeli parliament.
the deep state needs Bibi gone to sow the seeds for war.
What, a 2-state solution with Gantz & Bibi? Who controls what?
Correct me if I’m wrong but in the parliamentarian system if no one gets to 61 then the status quo is maintained and elections are held until someone finally reaches it.
So technically the could continue with elections every 6 months ad infinitum - correct?
“Center-left candidate Benny Gantz...”
If they call him center-left that means he’s to left of Trotsky.
You are correct that there could be a third election. Each nation has its own laws for what happens if no one reaches a majority.
General Gantz is the former Chief of General Staff of the Israeli military under Prime Minister Netanyahu.
Gantz commanded the Israel Defense Force when it fought against Palestinian factions in Gaza in the campaigns Operation Pillar of Defense and Operation Protective Edge.
Israelis are willing to take enormous risks for peace, not at the expense of their existence. Lets see how center left he is the next time Israelis citizens die.
I’ll miss Bi Bi, but will still pray for the peace of Jerusalem and the return of her KING.
Supposedly, Reagan’s people approached Gerald Ford in 1980 to feel him out about running as VP. Ford allegedly offered to accept the slot, with the idea that he would be a “CoPresident”. The idea was D.O.A., according to the story.
You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.
Bibi will be back.
I really find that scenario hard to believe. I cant imagine why any presidential candidate would want a prior loser on the ticket. Thats why the losers usually disappear from presidential conversations very quickly.
And the very same people that turned away from Netanyahu will be begging for him within the next year. Amazing how complacent and indifferent folks can get when there’s a safety net around them, protecting them at night. Then again, that describes pretty much every Democrat, Liberal, Progressive in the world today.
Well, there goes Israel down the crapper.
Theyve done it before.:
Yes the name Ehud Barack comes to mind. Another very intelligent guy who, since he was progressive, naturally supposed he was always and everywhere smarter than anyone else.
