President Donald Trump confirmed on Wednesday the Environmental Protection Agency will revoke California's waiver that allows the state to require automakers to build cleaner vehicles than federal requirements demand a move that will set off a massive legal battle.
Reuters and other media outlets reported on Tuesday the administration was set to formally announce the decision as early as Wednesday. The Trump administration will announce in the coming weeks a separate rule to roll back Obama-era fuel efficiency standards for light vehicles.
Trump urged automakers to back the action, but so far none have publicly supported revocation of California's authority. "Automakers should seize this opportunity because without this alternative to California, you will be out of business," Trump wrote on Twitter.
It is the latest in a series of Trump administration fights with California, the nation's largest new-vehicle market, after high-speed rail funding, border wall funding, and power plant regulations.
As part of the move, the Transportation Department will declare California is pre-empted from regulating light vehicle fuel economy. . .

Hopefully California will soon declare bankruptcy. Then a conservative judge can set policy.
Does this mean all cars will not look the same in the future?
Allowing more emissions from cars, and fewer from homeless people.
I like it.
President Trump trolls these anti-American, communist SOBs like no other.
This is what fighting back looks like. The spineless GOP should be taking notes, but I ain’t holding my breath.
One might hope.
I do not know. I am partial to a 1959 TR-3.
And, A GOOD THING!
Perhaps the GOP needs the help of persons with spines.
It may be time to rejoin and make one’s self heard.
Yes. Thank you.
If Trump follows through, California in in play for Trump next year and the CA GOP House races.
Yes. Petroleum vs. first-stage compost.
You cannot win if you do not play.
If California imposes harsher emissions standards on cars sold in their state, it imposes these standards on all cars in the US. Automakers can’t have two standards for their cars. What California does will cause higher prices for all cars.

It’s already been going on for years now. Years ago, I was going to buy my daughter a used car. Upon inspection, I discovered that it was a CA emissions-certified car. Didn’t buy that one, that’s for damn sure. Automakers have had to put up with CA for far too long....so have the rest of us.
“This post contains opinions that have been known to cause cancer in California.”
Maybe American auto makers will go back to building cars that people want. Late 50s, early 60s Caddies, Lincoln land yachts, and muscle cars were American icons.
Excellent!! Now lets get rid of CAFE requirements.
It’s been going on forever. I owned a 1955 chevy. It was a California car, built in Oakland and has several safety features on it that cars in the rest of the country did not. For example: One piece bumpers. Cars in the rest of the country had 3 piece bumpers. I believe the glass was California specific as well.

It is an insanity to have differing standards for emissions in Kali-Fornia vs the rest of the USA.
There are different gasoline standards, also, in Kali-Fornia.
Which, not incidentally, raises the cost of gas for not only Kali-Fornia, but the rest of us too!
But should be the subject for another thread.

No; The ‘jelly bean’ shape is the best for least wind resistance while still having a usable interior ...
