I live in exactly the right location to see the outcome of a grand experiment. The pilot Walmart Supercenter is located in Dallas, Georgia. So am I.
On Friday the 13th, the CEO of Walmart cut the ribbon at the grand opening. Sadly, I only learned about this grand opening on the morning of September 14. There had been no publicity while the store was being remodeled over the last 12 months.
So, what you are about to read is based on original research conducted on the cheap on the afternoon of September 14.
1. A Right-Hand Turn
My house is about 60 seconds from the highway.
If I turn to the right and drive approximately 1.7 miles, I arrive at the Walmart Supercenter.
I walked into this Supercenter through a new wing: Walmart Health. There, I found a health care delivery system that is far more comprehensive than the standard walk-in clinics that have sprung up in America's mini-malls. Here is what is available.
- Primary care
- Dental
- Counseling
- Labs & x-rays
- Health screening
- Optometry
- Hearing
- Fitness & nutrition
- Health insurance education & enrollment
I have seen it. I am impressed.
Here is Walmart's press release.
The Walmart Health center will offer low, transparent pricing for key health services to provide great care at a great value, regardless of insurance coverage. Customers will be notified on the estimated cost of their visit when they book their appointment.
The Walmart Health center will be operated by qualified medical professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists, behavioral health providers, and optometrists. Walmart Care Hosts and Community Health Workers onsite will help customers navigate their visit, understand resources and be a familiar presence for regular visits.

In the future most likely they will. This is the very beginning.
Ive known some employees and have read about some cases.LOL! Oh, you should have told us sooner about what an expert you are on Walmart (disgruntled?) employees
WOW! what great prices!
walmart can certainly make a substantial contribution in health clinics (as walmart already does in pharmacy, etc)
this looks like a real game-changer! and then we can really dump ZeroCare, thank heaven!
Retail health services. What a concept. They are also offering veterinary services I hear.
Sounds good. Just what the doctor ordered.
Adult teeth cleaning $25.00, OMG I cant believe that price unheard of!!!!
I do my best to avoid walmart as much as possible. Very poor customer service, very poor employee treatment, treat customers like barnyard animals with their corrals at the exits, attempts to control what you eat and how to pay for it, lies about unions, doesn’t support America..major chinese distributor..and I could more to the list, but others have already mentioned other things.
No. I’ve never worked for Walmart.
From your comment, it does appear that you feel a need to defend it.
I’m waiting for Amazon to take over prescription services and cutting out the price gouging middlemen. Home delivery and 90 day supply. It is time for a change.
I suspect this $25 dental cleaning is just a 15-minute quick-job by a local dental technician making minimum wage, and probably dodges fifty-percent of what you’d receive at a regular dentist. However, for most folks, it’s probably adequate.
“doesnt support America.”
Showing their anti Bill of Rights stance by announcing their elimination of “assault rifle” ammunition sales.
Corporations seldom have a moral compass. “The love of money ...” comes to mind.
My regular dentist uses ultrasound and an occasional scrape. Rarely takes more than ten minutes.
I suspect they’re using several nurse practitioners for one MD. Properly organized you can handle a sizable drop-in workload with that set-up. Quick accurate triage is the key.

Pill Pack is an Amazon Company. I see their are on TV. You pay only your copay.
Yeah, you are so right, a LOT of people show up for WalMart job fairs so they can be hurt.... So many stupid people want jobs where they are hurt by their employer...Go figure.
Cool, My local Walmart had a video conferencing Doc setup for awhile. I think first “visit” was $5.00. It was for minor things. Haven’t noticed the signs for it in awhile.

We have been customers of Walmart pharmacies for 30 years and that has not been true in the three small Texas towns weve lived in during that time. We are hoping they open a Walmart Heathcare Center close to us, since they will provide care that we cannot get within 40 miles of our rural community.
PillPack, an independently operated subsidiary of Amazon, is a pharmacy that makes it simple to take the right medications at the right time.
