Modern doomsayers have been predicting climate and environmental disaster since the 1960s. They continue to do so today.
None of the apocalyptic predictions with due dates as of today have come true.
What follows is a collection of notably wild predictions from notable people in government and science.
More than merely spotlighting the failed predictions, this collection shows that the makers of failed apocalyptic predictions often are individuals holding respected positions in government and science.
While such predictions have been and continue to be enthusiastically reported by a media eager for sensational headlines, the failures are typically not revisited.

Gas hydrate dissociation off Svalbard induced by isostatic rebound rather than global warming
Abstract
Methane seepage from the upper continental slopes of Western Svalbard has previously been attributed to gas hydrate dissociation induced by anthropogenic warming of ambient bottom waters. Here we show that sediment cores drilled off Prins Karls Foreland contain freshwater from dissociating hydrates. However, our modeling indicates that the observed pore water freshening began around 8 ka BP when the rate of isostatic uplift outpaced eustatic sea-level rise. The resultant local shallowing and lowering of hydrostatic pressure forced gas hydrate dissociation and dissolved chloride depletions consistent with our geochemical analysis. Hence, we propose that hydrate dissociation was triggered by postglacial isostatic rebound rather than anthropogenic warming. Furthermore, we show that methane fluxes from dissociating hydrates were considerably smaller than present methane seepage rates implying that gas hydrates were not a major source of methane to the oceans, but rather acted as a dynamic seal, regulating methane release from deep geological reservoirs.

I went to a forum and heard Paul Ehrlich speak in the 60's on the Population Bomb and how we were all going to die... He also spoke about the dangers of nuclear energy but that seems lost to this time.
The people who believed him then are the exact same types that believe in Global Warming today. Somewhat gullible and
The beginning of our all Environmental Laws stated with these liberal elite hoaxes. They scared people to death then tied it to voting for democrats. IF you want to live and NOT die a horrible death - YOU must vote for a democrat. Of course back then I was a democrat and yeah, it was effective... well, back then I was a socialist... but both groups played the catastrophe card...
Thanks grundle.

Julian Simon, a professor of economics, wagered $10,000 that the total price of five commodities (of Ehrlichs choosing) would be lower ten years from then (1980) in 1990.
Ehrlich lost the bet when all five metals he had chosen were less costly, adjusted for inflation, in 1990 than they had been ten years earlier.

Bushs fault.
Wow.
The way the Left played the Vietnam card turned me against them and I never looked back.
They hated our nation then. They hate it now.
Your mention of how they game issues pertains to a lot of issues these days. Each of them is anti-U. S. one way or another, or in combination.
Yes, only now they run the Universities... rather than just taking over the Dean's office... our work is cut out for us.
Yep, 50 years ago these were the people chanting, “Hey Hey Ho Ho Western Civ Has Got to Go!”
Well, it went, and now we’re reaping the whirlwind.
Shouldn’t be all that hard to do.
Demand equal access to professors of different political persuasions.
Otherwise simply withhold federal dollars, and state dollars too if that is applicable.
Of course states would need to pass such laws too.
Why do we allow the colleges to be 90/10 Leftists?
We’re financing our own demise.
Thanks. They’re all about quotas until it comes to them.
Wasn’t it Bernie that refused to pay his people the $15.00 bucks an hour minimum wage he supported?
The Left is as two-faced as it gets.
LOL - yep that was Bernie...
LOL, these Leftists would be pretty comical if they didn’t pose such a threat to the nation collectively.
The Cubs won the World Series.
That coulda been caused by global warming.
Hello.
I realize this is a relatively “old” thread but I have read grundle’s awesome post with the articles and headlines which highpoint the ongoing “threats” to human existence that have been issued by “experts” down through the years....and the resultant idiocy of these dire warnings.
I have siblings and, in particular, a 30 year old niece, who have staked their lives on the fact that our planet is “going to die” in 12 years due to global warming/climate change.
So, I am in a serious discussion with my niece about this issue.
I am searching for definitive information to show her that the global warming “threat” is nonsense and is intended to give governments further control of our lives but not of the lives of the elite.
For instance, is this Obama’s mansion by the sea? If so, it will be a wonderful prime example to her of the hypocrisy of those who claim the sea levels are going to catastrophically rise in the next 12 years.
If any of you could possibly direct me to any more precise refutations of the global warming myth that would be helpful in my “discussion” - I would be most grateful.
I am searching the FR archives for such info but if you have anything that is helpful in terms of links to original sources, and would ping me with this information, I would be more than glad.
Thank you.
If what you have here isn’t enough for for your niece, walk away and never discuss this issue with her again.
