Texas Techs Katharine Hayhoe is one of the most respected experts on global warming in the country. Shes also an evangelical Christian who is trying to connect with the very people who most doubt her research. Too bad the temperature keeps rising.
A respected atmospheric scientist at Texas Tech University, the 43-year-old had been invited to discuss climate change, and she breezed through her PowerPoint slides, delivering stark news in an upbeat manner: unless carbon emissions were swiftly curbed, in the coming decades Texas would see stronger heat waves, harsher summers, and torrential rainfall separated by longer periods of drought.
Why do we care about all of this stuff? Hayhoe asked. Because it has huge financial impacts. The number of billion-dollar weather disasters in the United States had ballooned from one or two per year in the eighties to eight to twelve today, Hayhoe explained as she pulled up a slide with a map of the country. Texas is in the crosshairs of those events, because we get it all, dont we? We get the floods and the droughts, the hailstorms and the ice storms, and even the snow and the extreme heat. And we get the tornadoes, the hurricanes, and the sea-level rise. There isnt much that we dont get.

Population explosion and monetary inflation. Shes lying.
The global warming people consider everything to be caused by global warming.
And this enters into their calculations.
Has there been a brush fire in California? Blame it on global warming, even though these fires happen regularly.
Hurricane hitting the mainland US? Blame it on global warming, even though these storms have happened since time immemorial.
Flooding in the Midwest, in the Mississippi River and its tributaries? Blame it on global warming.
They take any disaster which happens, and blame it on global warming, blame it on Trump pulling out of the Paris agreement, etc.
Imelda is hitting Houston and Galveston today.
This fool is saying “in the coming DECADES”!
DECADES? This woman is nutz! Everyone knows we will all be DEAD in 11.386558 yrs!!
I don’t doubt her “research”. I know she is either lying or she is dumb as a stump - I just which of those two choices it really is.
In Ag here, the Growing Degree Days this year have not been this low since 1990. (Midwest Ohio Valley -400)
This is just ‘Make Work’ BS that does nothing to create value. We may as well sacrifice Virgins into Volcanoes.
Well, if they would stop evacuating millions of people every time it rains they might have a few less of these “events” she conveniently added to her data.
Barely made it to TS status. A rainy day. I doubt this will be one of those $billion storms.
“Too bad the temperature keeps rising.”
Well, once Hansen ginned data was fixed at NASA, and once NOAA admitted they were falsifying data and corrected it, we now have accurate, scientific, measurements that have some validity. Ocean temps from satellite measurement and direct measurement.
Other data sets such as terrestrial measurements and hopelessly compromised and are not valid.
So looking at NASA and NOAA - there has been zero temp rise since (iifc) 2008.
No warming. None.
This ‘respected’ researcher is a joke.

News just as fresh as it ever was!
Lubbock Texas.
Speaks volumes.
And in the next 1-2 years the effects from the current Maunder Minimum will be in full force and we can STRING HER UP for this FRAUD
She cannot be a sincere believer in the Bible and a global warming religionist at the same time. This is just propaganda, boob bait for the Bubbas, as Bill Clinton would say.
Of course, we have billions more people on the planet, which means hundreds of millions of new structures, and with inflation it takes a lot less actual damage to reach a billion dollars worth.
Details, details.
No wonder. Texas Monthly. Fake news with a Texas twang. Mollie Ivins was one of their favorites.
The truth is that the NHC names every cluster of thunderstorms with a few wind gusts and then claims the number of “tropical systems” is growing every year. At least three storms this year weren’t tropical storms at all, including the one coming ashore in Galveston today.
It has always rained like hell in Houston, been dry as hell in West Texas and been hot as hell everywhere in Texas. I live on the water on the Gulf Coast behind a bulkhead built in the early 1970’s. Sea level has not risen an inch.
It really pi$$es me off that even republicans and oil and gas producers are now discussing “carbon” and CO2 an though they were poisons that must be minimized or eliminated. Fossil fuels built modern civilization and continue to fuel its growth, here and in developing countries.
Texas Monthly highlights the fact that this “climate scientist” is an evangelical Christian (heck, Al Gore claims to be Southern Baptist), as though that is supposed to buy her some credibility among the ignoramuses in Texas.
A climate zealot is a climate zealot, and any intelligent person judges these folks by their ideas, not any patronizing label they put on themselves.
Not so hot in TX this summer. July broke cool temperature records with lows in the 50s. Yes, 50s! In Central TX, we ONLY had 50 days of three digit temps this summer vs. 100 days of higher three digit temps about 10 years ago and a lot less rain. I remember in about 1980 it was 117 and I’d have to sit in front of the open fridge. Today, the high will only be 92.
Yes, TX gets all sorts of weather because, duuuh, we’re were large. Hurricanes on the coast, tornadoes coming down through the tornado alley, the panhandle gets snow and west TX is desert-y. However, none of that has anything to do with climate change.
Waiting for them to name the snow showers we got in the mountains(Sierras) yesterday. Late summer snow storm Deshawn. And what are you talking about rain in Houston? When did that start? LOL! And, yes, it POs me too when the fossil folks start buying into the lie.
