House committee launches investigation into Transportation Secretary Chao

The House Oversight and Reform Committee on Monday launched an investigation into Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao over whether she is using her office to benefit herself and her family.

The investigation follows a series of reports alleging that Chao used her role in the Trump administration to boost Foremost Group, a shipping company founded by her father, and initially didn't divest from stock in a major construction company.

“The Committee is examining your misstatements of fact, your actions that may have benefitted the company in which you continued to hold shares, and your compliance with ethics and financial disclosure requirements,” Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.), chairman of the Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, wrote in a letter to Chao requesting documents.

Going after the wife of Mitch McConnell?

Thank you, Elijah Cummings.

That stunt is worth another 30 judges, 1 of them RBG’s replacement...even during the 2020 election year.

Fair enough. THe issue isn’t as much the enrichment as the Chinese connection, however.

If she is using her office to benefit her family then she should be investigated. Trump was elected on a promise to drain the swamp and then he appointed the ultimate swamp creature in Chao to a cabinet post. What did he expect? Swamp critters are always going to be swamp critters.

Hindsight is always 20/20. I don't like nepotism in govt. When Chao was appointed I was very skeptical, and still don't like the optics of McConnell's Chinese connected wife in a cabinet position, even if its a safe one. However, through chance or brilliance Trump has done it again. He appeased McConnell and gets full support on judges and now lets dems attack their own (again) further driving McConnell to support Trump's picks. Talk about stable genius...

Maybe it is time for Mitch to investigate the House Oversight and Reform Committee? Has one body ever investigated the other?
The House is totally out of control and needs to be brought down.

Boy are they politically inept.

Every judge is gonna get through now.

And definitely even if it’s a week before the elections.

Wasn’t there a question about Mrs. Elijah Cummings?

How quick we are to believe an accusation about a republican. That’s sad.

A House dud taking on the wife of a senator? Stand back as a senate dude takes on the husband of a House chick (Pelosi)

It’s a perfect example of something Nancy would never have permitted, but she’s lost control. The inmates are running the asylum now.

I’ve always thought Elaine Chao was more of a Shanghai Creature than a Swamp Creature.

The Dems apparently think that the people who were motivated to vote for Trump would be demotivated to vote for his reelection by finding dirt on his cabinet secretaries and the McConnell family. They must have forgotten what motivated people to vote for Trump in the first place. Swamp is swamp, it’s not their swamp v. Our swamp.

POTUS has McConnell’s “full support” on judges? That is wishful thinking more than anything else. I won’t count my chickens on those judges just yet.
