As I drove my 1998 Mustang GT out of the garage, it started raining. Pulling into the street, the engine got louder, a sound Id only heard a few times this year. The radio tried to compete with the loud V8 and played Coldplays Hurts Like Heaven: On every street, every car, every surface a name. Tonight the streets are ours. I knew today would be an awesome day.
Except for a few years in the 60s, Ford did not sell the Mustang in Europe for 50 years. If you wanted one, you had to import one yourself and get it approved by the authorities. This changed in 2015, when Ford started selling a Euro-spec Mustang via its dealers. The new Mustang sold like hot cakes in Germany and France, but nowhere it was more popular than in Belgium. In this small country the number of Mustangs per 1000 people is the highest in the world higher than in the US.
It is no surprise Ford Belgium came up with the idea to break the world record: the most Mustangs at one place at the same time. In previous record was from December 2017, when the Mustang Club of Mexico got 960 Mustangs together. Ford Belgium reached out to the biggest Mustang specialist in Belgium, the Mustang Garage, and arranged the Ford Lommel Proving Grounds as location. The Ford Mustang 1001 Event was born.

The only two Euro countries that drive on the left side of the road are UK and Ireland, everybody else uses the right side, just like us.
Plus, I don’t recall if the Common Market countries, predecessor of the EU, had gotten around to pollution controls and such in the 1960’s. Half of Europe was still Iron Curtain countries, at the time, and many countries were not part of the Common Market.
Ford and GM had been making cars in UK and Europe for decades and regulations would have been nothing new to them..................
only UK is right hand drive, rest of europe is same as us
I don’t thiMk that they hold the record. The company American Muscle that specializes in newer Mustang pats has been drawing thousands to their show at Maple Grove Drag strip near Reading, PA. for a number of years. I did not attend this year but I believe there were over 3,000 there.
If you are a Mustang guy you have to go.
Cyprus, Guensey (UK), Ireland, Isle of Man(UK), Jersey(UK), Malta, United Kingdom
If you want to see FE engined Mustangs & other Fords with FE
engines go to the FE reunion & drag race at Beaver Spring Drag Way in PA. lots OF Cobra Jets & 427’s in all of the Ford body styles. It is usually held on the last weekend in April. They have great videos on YouTube from past years.
My son had a 68 fast back with a 427 out of a wrecked T Bolt. It ran high 11’s. This was 25 years ago.
The rumor since the early 1980’s was Carroll Shelby put a few 427’s in some ‘67 GT500’s but 40 years later you think one would have been in a magazine or something or sold at BJ for a few $ million.
Shelby originally hoped to get as many as 50 of the 427 cars built. The single example does still exist - Mecum auctioned it back around January. It went for over $2 Million.
