Minneapolis once had the reputation of being a nice city. That seems, now, like a long time ago in a galaxy far away. These days, the reality is different. This sickening video of a gang of youths viciously brutalizing a man just outside Target Field, where the Twins play baseball, has gone national. It is visual proof of how feral downtown Minneapolis has become:
Or, to take another example, on the last night of the Minnesota State Fair, generally thought of as one of the more wholesome events a family can attend, there was a gang rumble just outside the fair gates at closing time:
As the Minnesota State Fair wound to a close late Monday, chaos unfolded just outside its main gate.
Fights broke out. A 19-year-old woman was gravely injured when she was hit by a vehicle. Then the sound of gunfire sent hundreds of panicked fairgoers fleeing down Midway Parkway into the Como neighborhood. One resident peeked out her window to find three people taking cover behind her lawn furniture.
Police sources have attributed the worst of the violence, including the barrage of bullets that sent three men to the hospital, to rival gangs.
The wounded people were all taken to the same hospital, where fighting again broke out between the gangs. This isn’t your grandfather’s Minnesota. Minneapolis’s mayor is a young man who worked briefly in my law firm and is obviously not up to the task. Members of the City Council are ridiculously left-wing and totally ineffective. In both Minneapolis and St. Paul, civic authorities are convinced that policemen are the gravest threat to “communities of color,” and therefore law enforcement should be scaled back, or only grudgingly reinforced in response to events like the one you see in the video above.

st paul is the home of Katherine Soliah....famed for assisting in blowing up a bank plus other crimes when she worked with the SLA.....the town defended her so that tells you alot about St. Paul....

I think this video is showing the Chicago influence on Minneapolis and St. Paul. Plenty of people moving this direction and bringing everything that comes with it.
I believe in general when things are built in “bad areas” they use land filled with housing for the bad elements - they simply displace the dregs and try to put something remotely worthwhile in their place. Doesn’t necessarily work, but I believe that is how it works - you have to move out the permanent underclass in order to build it, then you relocate them far away enough so they can’t harass/attack patrons visiting the new venue.
In my experience you knew when you entered a Somali neighborhood because it looked like Somalia; weeds growing up through cracked pavement, unmaintained properties, tall grass, etc..
Many African countries still have the unmaintained, decaying buildings left over from the colonial era at the center of their population centers; Minneapolis is no different (in those neighborhoods).

Sometimes folks have to visit these cities on business—but these problems can be turned into opportunities.
After a recent visit to Seattle (where a homeless person was wandering around the hotel lobby) I took the time to write a email to the hotel manager. I told them this was unacceptable, that I would not be returning to the hotel as a result, and I planned to let everyone I know that the hotel was not a safe place to stay. I also commented on the relevant web sites.
_That_ got their attention—and if enough people did that the hotels would be standing in line in public hearings at city hall to demand action.
If you are not playing offense you are playing defense.

I guaranteed Seattle and King County politicians will absolutely ignore this.
We just had a shooting in the transit tunnel downtown with 1 fatality and 3 injured. Nobody would really talk about it - the news media forgot to mention race and that they were youths.
Most of the women of Irish descent live over in St. Paul. ;-)
Given the area, I sure wouldn't come to see him for a million bucks!
