Cruz Signals He May ‘Run Again’ for POTUS in 2024: ‘We Came Very, Very Close in 2016’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) isn’t taking another presidential run off the table — at least for 2024.

The Republican lawmaker — who dropped his 2016 presidential bid after trying to win over voters against now-President Donald Trump in the Republican primary — is open to a future presidential run.

In hopes of becoming the Republican nominee in 2016, Cruz fell short, as his support among voters declined in comparison to those backing then-front-runner Trump. A Gallup poll conducted in late April of 2016 shows Cruz at a 45% unfavorability rating among Republican voters, jumping from an unfavorability rating in the teens at the beginning of the year.

In an interview with The Christian Science Monitor published on Thursday, Cruz, however, is sharing how he’d be open to taking another shot at it.

“Look, I hope to run again,” Cruz said, adding, “We came very, very close in 2016. And it’s the most fun I’ve ever had in my life.”

True.

Had Trump not run, Cruz would have been an also-ran. Either Rubio or Bush would have won.

The GOP establishment turned to Cruz in a last, desperate attempt to prevent Trump from winning. Without Trump in the Race, they would have found a way to torpedo Cruz’s campaign.

yeah, i forgot that the GOPe got behind Cruz in a desperate last-minute Hail Mary, figuring he he would appeal as a Trump-lite ...

however, Cruz is your basic standard slimeball politician who comes across as smarmy and whiny with a literally cringeworthy likeability aura, and if by some miracle Cruz had gotten the nomination, he would have been crushed by Hillary, but that would have been just fine with the GOPe RINOs petrified by Trump (as they well should have been) ...

OTOH, ANYBODY but Trump would have been crushed by Hillary because Trump was the only GOP candidate who was an implacable and undaunted heavy-weight fighter, and who was (and is) a total anti-establishment iconoclast ...

Of course Ted Cruz will never be president.

But the "Revenge of the Nerds," "So Uncool He's Cool" thing he's got going certainly does make politics fun for a while.

[Not to mention Cruz’ extremely annoying speaking style]

He needs a speech coach. I really like Ted despite his occasional autistic outbursts (e.g. the Glenn Beck migrant kids and soccer balls stunt and the Chicago thing that blamed attacks on Trump supporters on Trump). But the first time I heard his voice, I thought his message was being drowned out because of the fact that he sounds like the annoying antagonist/supporting character in a sitcom. The reality of politics, and just about anything else requiring face-to-face human interaction, is that appearances matter. And vocal timbre is a key part of appearances.

Absolutely solid voting record. Has stood alone against the liberals. Someone to consolidate and expand President Trump’s achievements.

Mitch McConnell on Trump’s nomination: “Thank God it isn’t Cruz.” So how is Cruz the Establishment candidate?

Hillary Clinton was just about the worst presidential candidate I’ve ever seen. (Well, on a major party, anyway.) She did as much to lose the election as Trump did to win it.

She would have been the same amoral idiot no matter who ran.

There is just something about him that I find very repellent.

Could it be this?

I certainly never recovered my respect for him after his sore loser recourse to thoughts better left unshared.
