Speaking to CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Wednesday, Santorum said that while Trump is celebrating this week’s Republican victories in North Carolina, there was a more ominous long-term trend appearing in the polls.
Trump has low favorability ratings and is trailing most of his potential 2020 Democratic rivals, meaning he has quite a hill to climb if he hopes to win reelection next year.
“The president’s numbers are not good numbers,” Santorum said. “The races in 2018 were not good races for the president and he’s gotta be concerned.”
Santorum added that in the end, Trump’s own mouth could be what seals his fate.
“I love 90 percent of what the president does,” he said. “I like about 20 percent of what he says. If you look at what he says, he’s got to work on that in order to calm down the opposition.”

His whole argument is based on poll numbers. The same polls that for a year leading up to the 2016 guaranteed Hillary would win in a landslide.

Agreed. How many times and ways has it been documented that these polls over-sample democrats? The reasons are many:
1. Democrats are more likely to be home to take a survey call.
2. Many Republicans and independents are reluctant to tell a stranger that they support Trump.
3. And then most of these polls add “special sauce” by adding more democrats to the mix.
These polls serve one purpose and it is not to provide valid information. They only exist to boost democrats hopes and turnout while causing the opposite effect on the Republicans. However, with Trump, it will not work.
Let me see if I understand this correctly. Rick Santorum, a guy who’s professed bedrock core is being pro-life sits down with some very rabid abortionists to trash the President. To my simple mind that makes good old Rick a hypocrite of the highest magnitude. One of the very best attributes of President Trump is his ability to make scumbags such as Rick Santorum show their true colors.
I actually think Trump has become far more polite and careful in what he says.
Also wouldn’t totally ignore Santorum’s warning. It’s probably true a president’s support sags in the mid term and needs to be brought back up.
The tried and true way of doing that is to attack and discredit the opposition.
And the President would be wise to take the advice of someone with such a winning record...oh wait...
Did he suggest the president get a bunch of nice new sweater vests? That’ll do the trick. Or maybe if the 24/7/365 Hate Trump Media would stop working to out this president, he’d be just fine.

Rick Santorum is just one more nasty azz spoiler being thrown in to try and siphon off votes for Trump. He knows full well he has no chance in hell.
