Remembering September 11: BOATLIFT, An Amazing Tale of 9/11 Resilience
September 11, 2019 by gCaptain
As the World Trade Center buildings burned and collapsed on September 11, 2001, a half million people were evacuated from Lower Manhattan by a civilian flotilla of ferries, tug boats and other vessels in what became the largest boatlift in history. BOATLIFT An Untold Tale of 9/11 Resilience, is a touching tribute to that effort.
In this short film, Tom Hanks narrates the epic story of the 9/11 boatlift when the local maritime community sprung into action to help their fellow New Yorkers and Americans. The film is executive produced by Stephen Flynn and Sean Burke and premiered on September 8, 2011, on the 1oth anniversary of the attacks.
We like to post this video every September 11th to remember and honor the role that these mariners played on that day in 2001. Never forget!

So I don’t have an account with them, and get enough junk e-mail already.
It also shows that even denizens of NYC will act like real Americans when the SHTF. Be damned to "Occasional Cortex"!
This is the kind of story that makes me want to puke when I hear or see the name Kapernick.
Then I put Tribute to NYFD into a BING search and got several hits. NYFD spirit playing now, without a sign-in.
thanks for posting. Really wonderful.
Thanx. Had to reread my post. It’s a wonder I can tell the phone from the TV sometimes.
Never forget.
Many have...they voted in Obama, Omar, Tlaib...
43 percent of the people who live in this land hate what the USA stands for, and want a USSA. Sadly, we are two countries in 1 land.
I have never seen or heard about this happening during 9/11- THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting it!...so worth watching. couldn’t help crying...
“”I was on one of those boats crossing the river that day.””
My word - I can’t imagine being an eye witness to what was unfolding. Had to be unbelievable and quite chilling! It was bad enough watching from a distance - us in CA 3 hours behind the actual event... We were up and getting ready to go to to work and for some reason, I decided to turn the TV on before we left the house. First thing on the screen were pictures of the Pentagon burning when I called to my husband to “come watch.” I have no idea how long it took us to soak up what we were seeing. Never to be forgotten and doubly so for you and others!!
My company was owned by a CA company. They were so worried they closed their SF office that day. Neanwhile, they left our offices in Manhattan open. The downtown office right next to world trade centers was never told to close. The peeps went running for their lives & never reopened. I hate those people.
You’re welcome!!
It's a moving tribute, as you say. and a gut level look WITH real men on that day.
Thanks for the ping, Fishtank. Swampsniper would have enjoyed it too...
