Were still reeling from a rather violent spate of mass shootings. El Paso, Texas Dayton, Ohio, and Odessa, Texas each saw some lunatic commit senseless acts of violence. Still, mass shootings are still rare. Violent crime is still down. And rifles still commit the smallest share of gun deaths. Its well below 500. And yes, its a numbers game. It shouldnt be, but the anti-gun Left decided to combine homicides with suicides to inflate the numbers and manufacture a narrative that the U.S. is a shooting gallery. Its not. And neither are our schools, which have never been safer.
Firearms reporter Stephen Gutowski of The Washington Free Beacon wrote today that despite these shootings gun control is trending downward, though expanding background checks remains high (via Free Beacon):

The good news is that it looks as if the Dems ever want to pass serious gun control in this country they’ll have to do it within a week of some horrific mass shooting.
Our Constitution to a large degree prevents this.
Gun sales are rising.
Support for gun control never was rising, but they were trying to make it so.
The sales numbers expose the lie.
Maybe, but those rifles have a real mean streak in them. Can't be trusted.
Odd isn’t it that when obxxx was in the offal office and they had both manure pits under their control.............nuthin’. What’s up with that?
On an average year, rifles of ALL types, are used in less than 400 murders.
Meanwhile, illegal aliens kill 9,000 a year, drunk driving is responsible for tens of thousands a year, smoking is responsible for hundreds of thousands, medical mistakes are responsible for hundreds of thousands more, and abortion is responsible for over 1 million deaths.
But assault weapons are the biggest problem. /sarc
They poll support for background checks because most of the public doesn’t understand how background checks work.
Or, more correctly, don’t work.
I’m still enjoying the fact that after recently moving to a Free State I was able to order a new Carry Pistol Online and pick it up at my local FFL.
I walked in, filed out the Paperwork and after an “instant” Background Check I left ten minutes later with my Pistol.
This is the way it was years ago when I lived in CA. That changed and now you are treated like a suspected Criminal when you dare to purchae an “approved” Firearm.
Well they pushed it through in NV with the promise of no more gun murders and no more domestic abuse. And mostly to soccer moms. It passed by about 10,000 votes and most of those were in Las Vegas. The only county where it passed but had enough votes to get it in and screw the rest of the state.
I think Obama spent so much time and political capital on Obamacare, that he couldn’t do what he wanted with gun control.
I presume the Nevada law is being challenged in Federal court.
Not sure. But I beleive that the 9th would be the one to hear it if it got to that level. And we know what that means. LOL!
Well that and partying with super stars. That’s one of the things that the lame stream is POd about too. No more glamorous lavish parties to rub elbows with the elite movers and shakers. Awwwwww.
There does seem to be more momentum these days against restriction. Mostly, IMO, because the facts are getting out, people are getting educated, and people are asking the right questions. There are still the emotional rants but the facts are getting disseminated.
One of the common questions is: would this new law have prevented the attack? The answer is always no.
Also, people of all types are concerned about the intrusion and circumventing of the constitution by “red flag laws.”
Maybe I am fooling myself but we have had several mass murder attacks with minimal impact on our rights.
They seriously need a law requiring a cool-down period of 90 days before enacting any legislation in response to any attack. Rick Scotts response in FL being the prime example. Join the military, but cant purchase a weapon?!
Our Constitution to a large degree prevents this.
Unlike New Zealand where their Prime Minister boasts that she works through her feelings.
Man I really need to run for office. We’d have all sorts of proper gun control bills being put forward.
So, if I do ever get elected, be sure to buy all the stock in Daisy you can - because little kids are gonna start learning their gun control as early as possible, and we’re gonna need a lot of BB guns for that!
Works for me.
