Trump endorses Sasse in 2020 race

President Trump on Tuesday endorsed Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) for his reelection bid in 2020, sending a message of support for one of his more outspoken Republican critics on Capitol Hill.

“Senator Ben Sasse has done a wonderful job representing the people of Nebraska. He is great with our Vets, the Military, and your very important Second Amendment. Strong on Crime and the Border, Ben has my Complete and Total Endorsement!” Trump tweeted.

Sasse, who officially announced his reelection bid in August, has been one of the few GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill to criticize the White House and had previously floated a primary challenge against Trump next year.

The Nebraska Republican began hammering Trump during the 2016 campaign and has ripped him during his White House tenure for his “amoralistic” rhetoric as well as his trade and foreign policy decisions.

Trump has responded to the criticism, tweeting early in 2016 that “the great State of Nebraska can do much better than @BenSasse as your Senator.”

Something like this must have happened behind closed doors.

Kill ‘em with kindness, Mr. President.

There are times when it pays to be magnanimous. DJT evidently thinks this is such a time, and I will not question his judgment.

Besides, I live about as far away from Nebraska as it’s possible to get.

Good post.

I'm not a fan of Ben Sasse, but if he was the worst U.S. Senator in the country this would be a magnificent place.

As a Nebraskan I'm kind of disappointed that Sasse hasn't been more positive about Trump, but when the chips are down, he supports him.

That's all that counts, the bottom line. There's plenty of room in the Republican party for differing opinions and values.

He spoke similarly of Send Thom Tillis during his recent rally in Fayetteville NC. I think Thom Tillis is a Chamber of Commerce “tool” who has been a huge disappointment. However, Thom has been changing his tune and supporting President Trump in recent months. I hope the President is correct in his assessment!

This is all about the judges. If, as I think could happen, we lose 2 (AZ and CO) and gain 1 (AL) in 2020 Senate, Trump will need every vote and Minion Romney will screw him, even on judges. So I think Trump is ensuring that he has 50 votes on all his judges, especially when Buzzi croaks.
