NEW: Arizona’s Andy Biggs Elected as Chairman of House Freedom Caucus
BLP ^ | Sep 10, 2019 | Richard Moorhead

Arizona’s Andy Biggs will become the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, taking over for North Carolina’s Mark Meadows.

Biggs was elected by caucus members to succeed Meadows in a Tuesday meeting.

The House Freedom Caucus is a conservative congressional group known for a willingness to challenge the Republican establishment, creating thorns in the side of Paul Ryan and John Boehner alike. Most in the caucus are strong supporters of President Trump.

Since arriving in the House of Representatives in 2017 to represent Arizona’s Fifth congressional district, Biggs has made a name for himself as a liberty-inclined conservative willing to take controversial stands that at times leave him alone in the broader Republican caucus.

Not clear if he beat Meadows, or if Meadows just decided he was done with it.

Biggs seems fine. I’ve seen him on FNC a lot.

Meadows will be a very hard act to follow.

Why “awful, awful”?

I’ve followed this guy for years but don’t see that.

What is the basis for concluding he is “awful”?

“Awful, awful choice.”

Why would you say that?

I think he’s great and so does the John Birch Society:

Perhaps I’m overreacting. However, he effectively killed the Article V convention in the state legislature. He has shown a complete lack of understanding of Article V.

He has voted well in the House since he’s been in but that’s not difficult in a Democratic held House.

If he doesn’t understand an Article V convention what else doesn’t he understand?

I’m too new here to make judgements about other members.

I’m against an A5 Convention and so is the John Birch Society.

I’m not willing to trust the GOP let alone the Demoncrats not to hold a runaway convention (like what happened with the Constitution) and gut the Constitution.

...here’s a link to Andy Biggs efforts to kill a Constitutional Convention. Basically, Biggs believes that if we re-educate the American People all our problems can be cured without such a Constitutional Convention.

Article V passed in Arizona.Russell K. Pearce who preceded Andy Biggs as Senate Majority leader told me he went round and round with Biggs over article V. Pearce, by the way was the man behind SB1040, the immigration bill that enforced federal law. That is why the left went to great lengths to destroy him.

You are correct, you are over reacting. Art 5 is a two edged sword. Do you really want the left re writing the constitution? You cant legally restrict the topics nor the membership of a constitutional convention.

What you have now is pretty good. Why lose it?

The JBS regards the Federal Convention 1787 as illegitimate.

The John Birch Society v. Article V.

To dismiss Article V is to deny self-government.
