CNN just hosted a seven-hour climate bore-athon. That climate cataclysms are real, imminent and indeed already devastating our planet is an article of faith. So host Wolf Blitzer and ten Democrat presidential wannabes vied to make the most extravagant claims about how bad things are and who would spend the most taxpayer money and impose the most Green New Deal rules to restrict our freedoms and transform our energy, economy, agriculture and transportation, in the name of preventing further cataclysms.
The first bucket of icy cold reality is that we simply do not face a climate emergency. Computer models certainly predict all kinds of catastrophes. But both the models and increasingly hysterical assertions of planetary doom are completely out of synch with reality.
The second, even colder bucket of reality is that the wind and sun may be free, renewable, sustainable. and eco-friendly. But the technologies and raw materials required to harness this widely dispersed, intermittent, weather dependent energy to benefit humanity absolutely are not. In fact, they are far more environmentally harmful than any of the fossil fuel energy sources they would supposedly replace.

Global Warming running out of steam
I feel like the world is waking from a bad dream. We could have a bright future in front of us if we keep the momentum going. But we could just as easily lose this entire moment and slip back into long march toward global socialism.
“Global Warming running out of steam”? Nah. msnbc is doing a 2 day climathon and their mommy is doing an entire week next week devoted to climate in crisis as reported by their climate unit. Or something. I wonder if they’ll feature the 16 folks ‘rescued’ from being trapped in the ice near the north poll a few days ago. The folks that were going to document the melting problem. No?

25 year warranty. No moving parts
Do these idiots not realize that no matter what the Paris deal makers say, the rest of the world is doing nothing about the hoax climate change and instead they are laughing their collective asses off at the fools in the US who think they have to save the world...
It will run out of steam as each “deadline for doom” arrives and passes with no presaged catastrophes. After a while all who will be left as believers are the totally bat shit crazies who will spend the rest of their lives inside their own demented reality.
It will take time, but it will happen.
Hail stones?
100% agree with both ToP and Rktman. I live in Alabama, where we get a substantial amount of sunlight (avg 5 hours per day for sunlight good enough for solar power). Also in Alabama most of our power consumption for the year is running our air conditioners -- something that's done more during the daytime (when the sun is shining) and more during the summer (when the sun shines longer during the day). I lean libertarian/fiscal conservative and I'm thiiiiissssss close to converting my power over to full solar using my own funds. (In my situation I'd have to go off-grid and be 100% independent from the power company because a hybrid tie-in solution causes more fees than having solar helps. So it's either don't go solar at all, or go all in and get off the grid using solar, some battery for short-term backup, and a generator as a long-term backup. In other places they have good net metering rules and you can choose to incrementally move to solar.)
But, if I lived up north I wouldn't give solar a 2nd thought, which is why I agree with Rocketman. Up there they have less sunlight hours per day, and they need more energy during the winter than during the summer because they have to produce a lot of heat for the cold winters (when there's even less sunlight). At best solar power can be a minor assistance and not a full solution. Even as a minor assistance you get so little bang for your buck it's practically infeasible to do just a little of it.
So no national one-size-fits-all policies, not even from Elizabeth-I'm-An-Injun-Though-I-Never-Owned-A-Casino-Like-Trump Warren. Us grown folks can make our own decisions.
Yup. Thanks for the input.

Your “25” year warrenty and a $1.99 will get you a cup of coffee at your nearest 7-11 . Solar panels have a niche market ONLY...cabins , boats etc... but even there limitations are unavoidable . The process to manufacture the panels themselves is a dirty procedure itself.releasing serious gases such as sulfur hexaflouride and Nitrogen Triflouride these two alone are brutal heat trapping gases that take eons to dilute and breakdown . Couple those two along with all of the other toxic liquids created during production and then the oil/gas/coal needed for the power to go through the numerous processes and then factor in recycling these panels loaded with all types of crap and you have a real inefficient way of generating power that is questionable during peak draw times and they are far less efficient than a gas boiler spinning a turbine or Hydro it self ...and even coal is far cleaner and CURRENT filtration systems make them pretty clean ....Natural gas will never run out as it is a by-product of our planets molten core ... I hope this is an eye opener to you as far as solar goes.

Sure: It doesn’t work at night.
And don’t tell me about how amazing batteries can be because right now they are not as good as the solar religionists would have us believe.
We tried solar and after five years we needed to replace the panels and the batteries and the cost was going to be roughly three times the five-year cost of simply getting electricity over the wire.
Absent government subsidies solar is little more than a curiosity. It is not a solution to serve people in major cities.
Well you must have done something wrong then. LOL! And, notice no mention of the copious amounts on unfriendly to the environment components are piled up in the processes. Disposal? Just dump ‘em in the ocean and they’ll melt all the straws out there.
Night
And don't forget the snow........
How well do they work at night?
