~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama
Maxwell Air Force Base officially known as Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, is a United States Air Force installation under the Air Education and Training Command (AETC). The installation is located in Montgomery, Alabama, US. Occupying the site of the first Wright Flying School, it was named in honor of Second Lieutenant William C. Maxwell, a native of Atmore, Alabama.

The base is the headquarters of Air University (AU), a major component of Air Education and Training Command (AETC), and is the U.S. Air Force's center for Joint Professional Military Education (PME). The host wing for Maxwell-Gunter is the 42d Air Base Wing (42 ABW).
The Air Force Reserve Command's 908th Airlift Wing (908 AW) is a tenant unit and the only operational flying unit at Maxwell. The 908 AW and its subordinate 357th Airlift Squadron (357 AS) operates eight C-130H Hercules aircraft for theater airlift in support of combatant commanders worldwide. As an AFRC airlift unit, the 908th is operationally gained by the Air Mobility Command (AMC).
Gunter Annex is a separate installation under the 42 ABW. Originally known as Gunter Field, it later became known as Gunter Air Force Station (Gunter AFS) when its runways were closed and its operational flying activity eliminated. It was later renamed Gunter Air Force Base (Gunter AFB) during the 1980s. As a hedge against future Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) closure actions, Gunter AFB was consolidated under Maxwell AFB in March 1992 to create a combined installation known as Maxwell/Gunter AFB.

Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list
September 10I Will Fear No Evil
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Psalm 23:4 In 1957, Melba Pattillo Beals was selected to be one of the Little Rock Nine, a group of nine African American students who first integrated the previously all-white Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. In her 2018 memoir, I Will Not Fear: My Story of a Lifetime of Building Faith under Fire, Beals gives a heartbreaking account of the injustices and harassment she struggled to face courageously every day as a fifteen-year-old student.
But she also wrote about her deep faith in God. In her darkest moments, when fear almost overwhelmed her, Beals repeated the familiar Bible verses she had learned at an early age from her grandmother. As she recited them, she was reminded of Gods presence with her, and Scripture gave her courage to endure.
Beals frequently recited Psalm 23, finding comfort in confessing, Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me (v. 4). Her grandmothers encouragement would ring through her ears as well, reassuring her that God is as close as your skin, and you have only to call on Him for help.
Although our particular situations may vary, we will all likely endure difficult struggles and overwhelming circumstances that could easily cause us to give in to fear. In those moments, may your heart find encouragement in the truth that Gods powerful presence is always with us.

Reflect & Pray
When have you felt Gods presence in a fearful situation? How is it comforting to know that God is always with you?
Father, when circumstances cause me to fear, help me to remember that You are near, and to find courage in the power of Your presence.

Spent 11 months there in 1977 going to Air Command and Staff College and then staying to get MBA from Auburn at Montgomery.

When I worked in Alabama, our entire group stayed a week at Maxwell. Us 3 agents at a small POD did not even know what was going on but there was a near rebellion going on. We lived at the BOQ.
The entire week was a gripe session. We ate at the officer’s open mess and the food was awful. Very fine food which the cooks ruined. WHAT makes it worse is my Father was a combat veteran of WWII. Hw said their food was excellent. Must have been so as their cooks won an award for having the best mess in the division.
One day five of us drove out to Montgomery for a good meal. When we came to the gate, the AP saluted and our driver saluted smartly back. I did not know it but he was a general in the reserve.
In 1969 I failed my draft physical at Maxwell. I am deaf at high frequencies.

Howdy, LUV.
Are you still enjoying cooler temps?
Wish we could get some here. It was miserably hot today and won’t get any better for a while yet.

Yes, it was really nice today. and cloudy for most of it. Trying to sprinkle a little tonight and we got nearly 1/2” of rain last night. I’m happy and so are the kitties! Except for their food being soggy, of course.
Hope you cool off soon. That plus the harvest dust is a two-fer for misery!

Great that you got rain last night. Might not get that lucky tonight. There's rain south of you but it doesn't look like it'll make it to your area. But ya never know.
Your kittehs must have appreciated the clouds and cooler temps immensely. Been pretty rough for them the past several weeks with it being so hot.
It shot up to 98 degrees here this afternoon. UGH! The next four days will be the same except the humidity will be higher than today.
Yep, the harvest is kicking up the dust big time.

They were here when I woke up and are STILL here. No dew fall yet so they're still going strong.

aaaaaaaah-CHOO!!!That's awful! Yes, I'm very happy for the rain. I just checked to see if it was still sprinkling. It wasn't but there was such a nice comfortable-feeling breeze blowing. if it weren't for the mosquitoes, I'd go sit outside. LOL!

It doesn’t make me sneeze. I just cough a lot and get a sinus headache. Maybe a few good sneezes would help. LOL
Too bad there are so many skeeters there keeping you from sitting on the patio to enjoy the breeze. :-(
