The Coast Guard has so far freed three of the four crew members stuck in a capsized South Korea-owned cargo ship off the Georgia coast, officials said at a Monday afternoon news conference. Efforts to save the fourth, who is trapped on another deck, are continuing.
Earlier Monday, rescuers made contact with the four crew members stuck inside the South Korea-owned cargo ship that overturned and caught fire near a major port in Georgia over the weekend, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The Golden Ray, a 656-foot vehicle carrier, listed "heavily" and then rolled over on its side early Sunday in St. Simons Sound near Brunswick, Ga., according to the Coast Guard.
Rescuers drilled a three inch hole overnight through the ship's hull and made contact with the four crew members, who had been listed as missing.
Coast Guard rescuers were able to find the four South Korean crew members by rappelling down the side and drilling the hole, according to the U.S. Coast Guard, which added that the rescue team communicated with the trapped sailors through the hole they drilled and also gave them food and water through the hole.
U.S. Coast Guard Capt. John Reed told reporters on Monday afternoon that the three saved crew members were in one area of the massive vessel and the fourth, who is currently being rescued, is stuck behind glass, enclosed in an engineering control room. Reed added that the three were able to get access to fresh air, food and water through the hole, but rescue crews were unable to reach the fourth crew member who was on another deck.

Very impressive. I thought the crew were done for.
Holy Poseidon, what an adventure!
Great job, CG!
Elen’s MOS is “Tactical Air Traffic Management,” or something to that effect. Keep our helicopters from flying into one another on the battlefield. She won’t be fully trained for a couple more years: it’s a tough job.
She learned to drive a Humvee on the wrong side of the road in Australia, and they keep busy with “work parties.” I think “cleaning our tents” is what Marines do to pass the time, instead of “painting the ship.”
Heh, I got that!
LOL!
Yes he is and every once in a while he writes a column, always on the lookout for them.
I wouldn’t count him out on visiting an axe-throwing bar if he was in the vicinity. :^)
She is one tough cookie then, controlling any Air Traffic is a very difficult job.

Better now than 1945.
Built in 2017. Over 4000 cars inside.

The Marines have already been helping out:
That upper bumper sticker pic is from an old Katie Perry video. From before she totally weirded out.
Still a good song though
Great catch!
The ax thrower ain’t ?
This video, at the 1:03 mark.
It’s actually very respectful of the Corps.
Such a great song too.
I went to Katy Perry's Prismatic concert in 2014 and that was a truly fun time.
So true. My great-uncle was there in 1945 with the Army.
Any time a freight train derails with auto carriers, every car must be destroyed, even those with minumal damage, often time by physically crushing and burying, on site if available, No parts salvage allowed and physical security is on site to ensure it is accomplished. The obvious reason, though it seems a waste, is lawyers -- if a car was in a subsequent wreck with injuries or death the attorneys would sue the railroad and maybe the car maker with enormous liability costs. It doesn't matter the reality, it's the perception and it prevents future payouts that may be many times the cost of replacing the cars.
It will be interesting how the insurance carriers deal with this, probably the same way - maybe disposal at sea after removing battery and fluids.

I would imagine they salvage the metal at least.

Semper Paratus!
Here is how Mazda dealt with 4,000 cars that were on the Cougar Ace that listed badly. Most of these cars had absolutely nothing wrong with them.
