NYC is full of CitiBike stands for tourists to use.

Looks like it will be even more expensive to come to NYC.

Que the photo of the cop arresting a 5 year old for being an unlicensed rider. Oh, and call a tow truck for the bike, which the kid can’t get back until he presents a license. by then the tow bill will be nearing a thousand dollars, so his folks will just by him a new one.

With the way bicyclists behave in our quiet hamlet, I’m all for making them get licenses. Make the adult cyclists pay road taxes and property taxes too. And they should be fined for bad taste regarding their choice of apparel.

What age does this kick in at? Are Big Wheels exempt? Wonder if you get your first 8 years of life free anymore.

I was born in 1947, and raised in Rochester, New York. In the 50's, I remember the public schools, in conjunction with the city, were issuing bike licenses to kids. I can't remember the cost. It might have been a quarter, but they were were stickers that you put on the bike, and they were illuminated by headlights if you rode after dark. I also remember back then, that city rules for bike riders included having to walk your bike across the street at an intersection with traffic lights. There were other rules back then for riding your bike, but I can't remember them. Do they even have any rules for bikers today?

Just a day or two ago, I was driving down the street, and there was a biker on the right side of the road, holding his cell phone in one hand, while either texting, or reading a text, and trying to steer his bike, and stay out of traffic with his other hand. I made sure I got around him as quickly as I could because he clearly had no control over the bike.

What a joke fake news article.

It talks about the problem of bikes in New York City, and then has the brass to mention the term “Law enforcement”.

If the cops in New York City enforced the laws which already do pertain to bicyclists their behavior would have changed decades ago.

It’s the thing specifically anti-car bicyclist hate the most.

The idea that they need to pay for a license, plates, and have insurance to operate those bikes on the same road, with the same rights, as cars.

yikes! for once I agree with wilhelm.
If bikes have their own street light, then they should have a license. Someone has to pay for that light!

I was waiting to do a left turn. I wait and wait at the red light. Soon the cars in the right lane going straight get their green light and off they go! I’m waiting, waiting and getting impatient...maybe the left turn light is broken? Then I notice a tiny bicycle shaped green light on the left. Holy bazookas!!I HAVE TO WAIT FOR CYCLISTS!!!

Yup! cyclists should get a license. They have their own lane, own light...someone paid for that.

I’m sure they will use the revenue to clean up all of the rats and feces than litter that sewer of a city.

When I was a nipper bikes had to have city plates—this was in the 50s. Made me feel all grown up to have a license plate. My dad just chuckled at my naivety.

I think that people who ride bicycles on congested public streets and roadways, and who expect drivers of motorized vehicles to treat they as they would other drivers, should be licensed using the same training and insurance requirements that drivers of motor vehicles must adhere to.

Can’t tax them with a license. Then they can be pulled over and ticketed for missing tags.

In 1958 the city of Cheyenne, Wyoming, made it mandatory for bicycles to have a license and a tag. I still have mine..

I knew they’d be here, but it’s saddening to see alleged “conservatives” chiming in, in support of a license to ride a bicycle.

No wonder so many folks consider the Republican party to be ‘Democrat Lite’ (Now with more authoritarianism in every box!)

It looks like there is a discussion here about bicycles and cyclists, and two others about fish. Because of course there are.
