WARSAW, Poland (AP)

Many Polish rescuers are in Ukraine, Belarus, etc.
Good story about righteous Gentiles in deed.
Many who helped Jews in Poland during WW II did not seek recognition because they saw what they did as nothing special. I had a great uncle who, during WW II, smuggled food across the Czech border into south Poland. Some of those he helped feed were Jewish, an offense that carried the death penalty. Yet simply being a smuggler could just as easily have led to getting shot when crossing the border.
Poland is a sad example of what can happen to a country that borders a larger, more powerful one. To first be defiled by the Nazis and then by the Soviets is beyond comprehension. There are many, many stories of brave Poles,Frenchmen,Belgians,Italians...and even Germans...who risked their lives to do the right thing.
+1
How about the whole Polish Army? They didn’t wait around for the Nazis to put them in camps? They killed Germans which was what was needed to be done to stop the camps, et al. There’s a whole line of mythology that’s been created about the 2nd World War that needs to be checked. Personally, I’m going to honor those who had the courage to fight even if the odds were terrible and they could only do so much. Adult men who did not resist their own enslavement aren’t at the top of my list.
Polands problem dates to 1650 when it elected (yes, Poland elected its kings) a member of the swedish Vasa dynasty.
He embroiled Poland in the swedish dynastic wars.
The swedes invaded po6and killed 40% of the population, more than the Nazis.
Then in the 1700s it elected the Saxon kings, who opportunistically converted from Lutheranism to Catholicism. They bought the elections with money from the Romanovs and Hohenzollerns.
This led ultimately to the partition of Poland in 1791 when it disappeared off the map for 123 years.
Incidentally Poland also disappeared off the map between 1939 and 1945
The Polish army never surrendered. Troops escaped into Romania and then fought in every battle in the European theatre
The Polish army never surrendered.
the money line
Yes. I was reading “Warsaw Uprising” by George Bruce and one of the things that struck me was:
poland was captured by the Nazis and the Soviets and what do they publish “we’re not going to compromise. We’ll fight BOTH you b*$t***s”
Amazingly resilient country.
Strong moral, Christian heritage.
BTW; where was the French and English promised aid ???
What is horrifying is that France and Britain had more troops, better tanks and weapons on the Western Front and if they had seriously invaded Germany they could have crushed the Reich, stopped the Battle of France, the Battle of Britain, stopped the Nazis conquering Benelux, stopped the final solution.
