A couple in Pennsylvania is facing theft charges and over $100,000 in overdraft fees after allegedly using money that was accidentally deposited into their bank account, WITN reports.

State police said the couple living at a home on Cypress Street in Montoursville got themselves into hot water after spending money that wasn't theirs.

Investigators said Robert and Tiffany Williams had $120,000 deposited into their account at BB&T May 31 through a mistake by a teller. But instead of contacting the bank about the deposit, the couple allegedly spent most of the money in just over two weeks from June 3 to June 19.

You totally misinterpret the situation and advise errantly.

“Why aren’t the banks held accountable? “

Again you display your ignorance.

“Go into someones private bank account 2 weeks later, that is theft.”

No.

I would say dumber. The only job interview questions the banks ask are things like “what was your most satisfying experience?”

“According to the law, they committedtheft the moment they were aware they had control of the money and didn’t notify the bank.”

I don’t know, but take your word for it. Makes sense.

They figured it was Reparations.

The sad thing is, they treated just like they will treat any forthcoming reparation...gone in 60 seconds. This is a Kodak moment.

Same here. There’s an aspect to getting something for nothing that doesn’t seem right.

That teller was dishonest, you should have reported him. He was probably making over a hundred a day by shorting customers he thought wouldn’t notice or fuss.

Bank cameras don’t just watch the customers, they watch the tellers too.

I’ve done the same, but for only $10. I was not going to be responsible for a kid losing $10 because his till was off.

Once found $80 at a self-check terminal at a grocery store. Gave the manager my name and phone number if someone came back looking for it. Got a call and a young guy and his wife; they were surprised that I didn’t just keep it.

You have questionable morals if you think that would be right.

They still knew it wasn’t theirs.

That is true, but on the other hand, I don’t force my morality on other people.

In this situation, this should have been solved in 24 hours.

Banks always have the leeway, they are never held accountable and when they make mistakes that cost their customers money, its like “our bad, now get lost”.

If I have to report stolen checks/account numbers/debit cards, etc to the bank within 24 hours (of the theft, not the knowledge of the theft) then why can’t the banks live to the same exact standards?

And this is a super easy one to catch. What does the bank manager in this branch do all day? Play solitaire and look at pron?

Deposits vs credits

Add up the deposits of each teller and credits, it should match
