After Walmart and Kroger earlier this week urged customers not to openly carry firearms in their stores, drug store giants Walgreens and CVS, along with the Wegmans Food Markets announced Thursday that they were joining in making the same request, continuing a movement among major stores concerning gun violence.
"We are joining other retailers in asking our customers to no longer openly carry firearms into our stores other than authorized law enforcement officials," Walgreens stated.
"We join a growing chorus of businesses in requesting that our customers, other than authorized law enforcement personnel, do not bring firearms into our stores," CVS added.
"The sight of someone with a gun can be alarming, and we dont want anyone to feel that way at Wegmans," the food store said in a statement, saying they 'prefer that customers not openly carry firearms.'

Open carry is the camel’s nose.
If we dont come into your businesses, we wont be sitting ducks when a killer starts shooting there. Thanks for the warning.
Their policy is for open carry only. I have no problem with that. It is THEIR store. (And if they dont want to sell cakes to queers, it is THEIR right in THEIR store). They are not saying no guns they are saying no urban cowboys. I cc everywhere... but even Im darned wary of some guy walking around a mall with the weapon showing, because there is no ADULT reason for it. To me, open carry is BLING. You can have one in the chamber and many more in the mag concealed and be more tactically effective with surprise and ambush.
Ditto that 1-4perl
You can, however, open carry on any public property around these cowardly retailers.
I carry in my purse or pocket.
I find the sight of a holstered gun reassuring. I doubt they bothered to survey their customers.
Time for a whole bunch of empty holster carry. I am thinking a whole bunch of flap holsters.
The minimum wage help sees someone walking around with a gun and concludes they’re there for a mass shooting or to rob the store. Very bad things can happen from there.
If it’s legal, who are you to determine criminality or intent if it’s not used in a threatening manner? That’s the whole point of open carry law. You get to do it without being accosted or threatened for doing so, whether by civilians or police.
And this mad-on for open carry strikes me as sexist, too.
Guys often have an easier time carrying concealed than women. Depending on what you’re wearing, about the only place for a woman to conceal her firearm is in a concealed carry handbag. And I’ve been told drawing from a concealed carry handbag is not a preferred method.
Just something those virtue-signaling suits might wanna keep in mind.
For me, carry means concealed carry unless I am training or hunting. I have been accused of being cowardly for not insisting on some sort of "open carry rights." About half the time the very same person will also tell me that weapon-mounted lights are stupid because they let a bad guy identify your position.
Ironic, that.
Yet it’s legal - so do you have an issue with carry laws?
Anyone can assume anything about anyone else, but within the confines of the law they have no backing in doing so. Let me live my life in peace and you can live yours.
Or turn into a Democrat and vote against my right to open carry. The choice is yours.
“I do believe open carry if it were more common is actually a deterrent to violent crime. Criminals avoid hardened targets like the plague. CCW is not much of a deterrent because the criminals do not believe the chances are high that someone nearby is armed. Ironically criminals unlike liberal nitwits actually believe their eyes. The last thing they want is a guaranteed gun fight with experienced shooters.”
________
This, I will consider more thoughtfully.
A CCW is a better choice.

Saw it first hand in St. Louis, 1998
All true... but there’s something else going on. These large companies didn’t have to stick their noses into poltics znd the natural tendency of a business is to avoid politics if possible, because no matter what a business says they will anger customers...makes more sense not to say anything at all. That they chose to make such statements tells me they are being pushed by an organized external group to make counterproductive public statements as part of a larger agenda. This external group must be terroristic in nature to force a corporation to risk pissing off its safest and least disruptive customers. Such a group does not have to be large, they just have to fake a large online presence to troll these companies. Sounds like the bunch of anarchists working with the DNC’s pal the Speedway Bomber... the group that was swatting conservative journalists a while back...they were involved with John Kerry and Soros.
The solution is simple. Start a movement to have an open carry day in these stores. Let’s see how the corporate types react when they have to deal with a large number of peaceful protesters exercising their Constitutional rights.
“so you just leave them outside, on the bicycle rack?”
Not the store’s problem.
