After Walmart and Kroger earlier this week urged customers not to openly carry firearms in their stores, drug store giants Walgreens and CVS, along with the Wegmans Food Markets announced Thursday that they were joining in making the same request, continuing a movement among major stores concerning gun violence.
"We are joining other retailers in asking our customers to no longer openly carry firearms into our stores other than authorized law enforcement officials," Walgreens stated.
"We join a growing chorus of businesses in requesting that our customers, other than authorized law enforcement personnel, do not bring firearms into our stores," CVS added.
"The sight of someone with a gun can be alarming, and we dont want anyone to feel that way at Wegmans," the food store said in a statement, saying they 'prefer that customers not openly carry firearms.'

And we all thought that a law against murder was all we needed.
Ha! What simpletons!
It’s their store.
Shop by their rules or move one.
A better response would be.....well I’ll just conceal. They are not taking your gun. Just asking to keep it quite. What’s wrong with that?
I think keeping it quite is better.
That’s why we have concealed carry. Snowflakes get the vapors at the mere sight of a gun.
“The sight of someone with a gun can be alarming, and we dont want anyone to feel that way at Wegmans,”
What about MAGA hats and hoodies with the hood up? Some people find those alarming.
Yep. If I ever have to draw (God forbid!), I want it to come as a complete surprise.
They do indeed.
And so do consumers. The next time someone gets plugged in one of these shooting galleries masquerading as a business, I hope the vic successfully sues that gun-free zone into bankruptcy.
CVS must stand for Communist Virtue Signalling.
Yep, my thoughts too. Post 22.
Open carry in public places has just never appealed to me.
We need to start shaming retailers for virtue signalling
Same sh*t here with Sprouts. I know a few guys who did carry inside just to be prove a point because the legal term is “ask”.
The stores probably got tired of cleanup of urine on the floors where the fainthearts lost bladder control after seeing a “gasp” gun!
“so you just leave them outside, on the bicycle rack?”
haha alongside the sign saying “leave your assault rifle here!”
“What about MAGA hats and hoodies with the hood up? Some people find those alarming.”
silly argument.
not relevant here.
it is a good argument though. An important one.
Just not related to this one.
Pretty soon, it will not be a problem where I want to shop. And it will not be any of these places. Wally World MIGHT be cheaper than some, but I can do business elsewhere.
And how are all these businesses going to guarantee the safety of disarmed employees at risk from perps?
Note to employees: For once I can see the need for strikes. 2 words: HAZARD PAY.
I think it’s totally relevant. It’s the same mindset after all.
These companies are basically on the road to declaring themselves gun free zones. Bad actions will follow.
I’m comfortable with concealed carry. Open carry says I am free, exercising my rights. That’s good. With concealed, I think I have the advantage of surprise.
“Its their store.
Shop by their rules or move one.”
It may be their store but the store owners are outsiders who don’t live in the community (mostly) and it’s the customers community. If they don’t want to do business by the community rules they can move on and open a store elsewhere.
