This is insane.

California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation allowing the public to refuse helping police officers in distress.

The law was meant to protect African Americans from aggressive California police officers.

Seems fair to me, since the police have no legal obligation to protect the public.

Help them what? Make sure the cop the gang just shot bleeds out rather than gets help? Or makes sure they’re on their own if they try to protect people in the next riot / grab for big screen TVs and kicks?

Why not? The police went to the US Supreme Court to ensure they didn’t have to show up and if they did then they didn’t have to take action. Gonzales v. Castle Rock.

Court after court after court have ruled that the police have ‘no duty to protect’.

Why is is bad when unarmed, untrained, ordinary citizens who have not sworn an oath to uphold the law have no legal duty to protect the sworn, trained, armed officers?

They’ll need to be because when guns are illegal only the criminals will have guns and California state government is already siding with the criminals.

The joke is that Demolition Man was 180 degrees from where California is heading.

It won’t be a Leftwing pacifist utopia in which a few 20th Century retrograde elements are dumped but a shit littered, drug cartel and street gang hellhole with a few sane people trying to survive.

Just police? Why not ANYONE in distress? A man can refuse life saving efforts for a woman because of the risk of an “inappropriate touching” lawsuit, for example.
Or for no reason at all.

“to help an officer who requests assistance during an arrest.”

Just a stunt. If police request assistance from a bystander, it’s still a request which means that the person making the request needs consent. If consent is not needed, that would be an order, duh.

CW2. Only if California secedes I don’t think we should fight to bring it back in. Let them rot. Same as my own state of NY. I’ll leave.

Speaking as a recovering Californian, I think they’ve been trying to force decent people out of there for quite awhile.
