Analysis: Trump’s conservative critics are speaking a code

WASHINGTON — Like whisperers in a tempest, conservative-minded officials across the breadth of Donald Trump’s government are letting it be known what they think of him, and some of it isn’t pretty.

But they are speaking oh so softly, in a kind of code, to a country that may only hear shouting.

Jim Mattis is just the latest in a string of leading lights from the conservative establishment to throw shade at Trump. As with others — the chief justice, a special counsel, various Republican lawmakers who hope to have a political future — the ex-Pentagon chief’s words are subtle, filtered through notions of duty, decorum, deference to history, the greater good.

Crack the code and you can sometimes see deep discomfort with Trump, the contours of a searing repudiation. In the view of many institutionalists of the right as well as the left, he is bulldozing values that America holds dear.

Yet the negativity is couched in words of moderation and caution.

The entrenched establishment residing in the Swamp expresses discomfort with a President that the mainstream population find straightforward and refreshing. It's true that his Tweets and public utterances before dashing off on a helicopter can sometimes make one twinge, but the media and his opponents take every opportunity to take remarks out of context to make him seem vulgar, a bully, racist or any other of many disparaging adjectives to make him look bad. Us in flyover country and many on the east and left coasts overlook these and recognize him as the leader he is - eliminating regulations, reducing taxes, enforcing border security and above all supporting the common man by encouraging opportunity and applauding success.

Remember that story that showed the picture of PDJT shaking hands with some A-A celebrity in the Oval Office, and the story then proceeded to explain that even though he was shaking hands with him, in his mind he was calling him the N-word.

There’s no penalty for criticizing Trump, so anybody who wants to criticize him openly can easily do so.

He’s a mouth. Never married no kids bachelor, defended trannies as hard as he could. Wants Assad removed to install a Sunni government in Syria. Quit in protest because Trump doesnt want to do regime change in Syria.

Moreover he has gotten exactly zero votes and thus has no political standing in the republic, to which he swore an oath, beyond that of ordinary citizen.

No constituency but the anti-Trump media makes him a political nobody.
