Meteorologist Kait Parker walks us through some of the first aerial images of the devastation in the Bahamas.
Aerial Video at link.............
Lord have mercy.
Oh my God! My heart just jumped when I saw that.
Damn. I’m afraid what we’re going to see in the next couple weeks is going to be heart breaking.
Mind blowing. God help those who survived.
there were a lot of folks on this site who were saying it was essentially a weather fraud and not NEARLY as bad as was being reported.
The images above are what 180mph+ winds look like.
Only concrete remains standing.
Lots of prayers for the losses, both physical and psychological..
______
Looks like super huge tornado damage.
Some buildings held up rather well, others destroyed. Not many are up to code so to speak due to the relatively low standard of living there. Poorly built locally crafted wooden structures are not hurricane proof.
I am speechless. Prayers being said.
Looks like a lot of storm surge damage, as well.
In the facebook video from this helicopter there is a concrete block building with the walls torn apart. Not much good without enough rebar.
Dear God it’s a miracle the death toll isn’t higher!
“”Looks like super huge tornado damage.””
It certainly does - like some pictures from a couple of years ago also that resembled tornado damage and not hurricane damage. Hurricane damage from TX and OK in the past had buildings standing but damaged where you could see some places weren’t touched at all. Not total destruction like this. The pictures of two story homes in the Bahamas with water covering the 2nd floor are unbelievable. Astounding.
I thought Mexico City was bad...
It reminds me a bit of Japan after the Tsunami, that’s storm surge.
PR and the Bahamas luck ran out.
They are in prime spots to get clobbered and it was only a matter of time.
I hope they can recover.
The Bahamas is to Hurricanes, what Oklahoma is to Tornadoes.
I doubt the death toll is accurate. I saw more bodies on one truck of many that they were loading them on earlier. Lots of people still trapped in wreckage. The death toll will rise, unfortunately.
