The Department of Justice has drafted legislation that would expedite capital punishment for those found guilty of mass killings, according to a top Trump administration official.
Vice President Mike Pences chief of staff Marc Short told reporters Monday that the veeps policy team has been working with Attorney General William Barr on the death penalty bill, which will likely be part of a larger gun control package the White House will try to sell to Congress amid a wave of shooting massacres, including the latest rampage in Texas that killed seven people.eVice President Mike Pences chief of staff Marc Short told reporters Monday that the veeps policy team has been working with Attorney General William Barr on the death penalty bill, which will likely be part of a larger gun control package the White House will try to sell to Congress amid a wave of shooting massacres, including the latest rampage in Texas that killed seven people. Right, reduce the death row wait time from 25 to 15 years......
“Just ask yourself why we likely will never see anyone try to hijack an airliner with a box cutter.”
Exactly correct. Digging through peoples bags looking for sharp or pointy things has always been “security theater” to make the sheep feel that the government is “doing something”.
The only reason it worked for as long as it did on 9/11/01 is the years of conditioning the public endured to just sit back and let the terrorists have their way, and rest assured that the experts in the government will negotiate a deal with them. That conditioning didn’t even survive the day as people found out what the end game was.
It not likely that anyone will ever be able to successfully hijack an American airliner ever again. You’d have to kill nearly everyone on board to take control of the airplane.
Since Trump sees the problem as mostly a ‘mental’ issue, this will never get approval. We don’t execute the mentally ill.
I think all murder should be made federal crimes and taken out of the hands of the states to prosecute since there is too much mucking about at the local and state levels with the charges. Special streamlined federal courts can be set up to deal with the charges and forensics labs set up to deal with the complexities.
Pre-med murder violates the constitutional goal of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and thus, it could be argued that it should be dealt with on a federal level.
This is a theoretical argument, not expecting it to be taken too seriously but if murder issues were dealt with on the federal level, it least it simplifies who we can hold responsible for when these a’holes get off scott free. We can hold the federal legislature, the executive and the judicial branches directly responsible for any misjustice. The local and the state levels just aren’t handling the murder stuff very well and it needs to be taken out of their hands.(plus murder investigations on a federal level might flush out a who lot of state and local dirty dealing officials who are behind a lot of those murders)
Yeah I know about the corrupt FBI, they need to be re-structured.
Great idea, the Dems will oppose it.
The real answer is to shot them immediately after capture and then hang there bodies some place public so the other nut cases can see what will be happening to them.
There is no reason it should take decades to carry out a punishment, but due process must be maintained. And not just because of the perp’s rights, but as protection against the government and to allow for outside investigation into any potential shenanigans by the so called “deep state”.
Also, I disagree that quick execution would stop many of these people. “No media exaltation” might, but most of these folks know it’s a suicide mission.
Many of these mass shooters get killed by the police or commit suicide and arguably some who go to trial might be found insane. Would a quick death penalty deter these shooters.. in my opinion probably not. We are dealing with nutballs not rational people. However, I see no reason why the Boston bomber, 9-11 mastermind KSM and Maj Hassan shouldn’t quickly have their date with the hangman.
Preferably before a costly and lengthy trial.
it’s obvious the pendulum has swung to the other extreme where criminals stay on death row for decades. it’s time the pendulum swung back the OTHER way.
I’m good with it.
