Trump should read his Bible more. Maybe look it up in the Two Corinthians. An eye for an eye is not Christian.

Cursing and mutilating evil is righteous.

Christian or not, it’s what Trump has on his mind and that’s good enough for me.

FYI, I listen to the great evangelical mathematician/Christian apologist, John Lennox, and he also says “Two Corinthians, Samuel, etc. Probably a Church of England, Episcopalian, or certain Presbyterian Church way of saying it. So ridiculing the President for saying it , is sort of like laughing at people who mispronounce Job in the Bible, when they themselves say Lot, which should be pronounced “Lote”. (Almost no one pronounces it that way, but both Job and Lot should be pronounced with a long “O”).

I have always thought that 2 Corinthians is how a Christian should treat his fellow man, but an eye for an eye is God-given law and just judgment for govt to administer. I do not think the two teachings are in conflict. Pres. Trump represents the law, and an eye for an eye is the correct scripture for him to follow, and I think for him to say this sends a warning and a message that needs to be sent.

Privately, I hope he is kind and forgiving.

He was applying it to how other nations treat us.

A tariff for a tariff. Thankfully we now have a President who doesn’t turn the other cheek on tariffs. He reciprocates in kind.

“Maybe look it up in the Two Corinthians.”

I’m a member of a large family of pastors and missionaries, and have 50+ friends who are pastors from my days in seminary. Some people DO say “Two Corinthians”. Why deride POTUS for doing the same?

Yes, “an eye for an eye” was more O.T. Law than N.T. Grace. Still, I’m glad Trump doesn’t turn the other cheek when it comes to other countries trying to annihilate America — the America God gave us.

Hell - the average Catholic focuses on non-Christian principles of the Bible (if they read it at all) - I think Trump was letting out more trolling line...

IT is still in the Bible and has application, especially as Trump excplains it.

It is YOU who is taking something a little out of context. Yes forgiveness is also part of the Bible. But forgiveness /love does NOT mean to you give them free range.

IF you love someone you WILL HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE.

An eye for an eye is not Christian.

The Talmud teaches that the verse is not to be taken literally. That is, it does not mean that if one man knocks out another man's eye in a fight that that man should lose his eye too. Rather the victim is to be compensated monetarily.

(I'm not so sure.)

“That’s not a particularly nice thing.”

It says nothing about PDJT believing in living this himself - only that it is something he thinks about. He says it isn’t a “nice thing”.

I’m more than aware that non-Christians, especially the left, believe in an “eye for an eye”. It is appropriate to never forget it.

You apparently haven't read Leviticus (24:20ff) or Deuteronomy (19:21ff) where God establishes equity in punishment: "eye for eye, tooth for tooth, etc." This is just and still God's law and is still "Christian". Jesus did not come to abolish the law.

We are to obey the laws of the land and not effect private justice, except when life and limb require it. The right of measured self-defense is enshrined in our laws. When it comes to non-life-threatening insults we do not have to respond in kind, but can turn the other cheek.
