Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., told an audience in South Carolina Friday that he is working on legislation that would "eliminate medical debt in this country."
Sanders made the remark during a question-and-answer period following a town hall meeting in Florence on "Medicare-for-All." A female attendee explained to Sanders that she doesn't make enough money to qualify for ObamaCare and has a large amount of medical debt not covered by insurance.
When the woman asked Sanders if he had a plan for that, the self-described democratic socialist told her: "In another piece of legislation that we're offering, we're gonna eliminate medical debt in this country."
The Sanders campaign confirmed to Fox News that the proposal was new, but details were scant.
"We are introducing legislation that would end all medical debt in this country," Sanders told reporters as he departed the town hall. "The bottom line is it is an insane and cruel system, which says to people that they have to go deeply into debt or go bankrupt because of what? Because they came down with cancer or they came down with heart disease or they came down with Alzheimers, or whatever ...
"In the midst of a dysfunctional healthcare system, we have to say to people that you cannot go bankrupt or end up in financial duress," Sanders added. "That is cruel and something we've gotta handle. This is something that we're working on and that we will introduce."

I wouldn’t have thought there was any free stuff left that Crazy Bernie hadn’t already promised, except perhaps for each person’s choice of either a Mercedes or Porsche.
I think last time around, Bernie could have beat Trump.
Not now though.
Nowhere near the threat he was, last time, in my view.
Bernie will say and do anything to create a “ freebie society “.
So Bernie who will pay for this ?
The rich of course
(except NBA basket ball players and rap utterers?)
Because doctors and nurses and medical staff all want to work for free.
For the party Comrade Sanders..... :):):)
But US medicine costs are completely insane. Just nuts.
Would like to know how much of the cost is due to “ malpractice insurance”
I’m betting a significant portion.
Also what part if due to Medicare pays little so extra supplies etc are used to regain some of the expenses...
It is their duty to serve the people!
They are unpatriotic if they resist!
There is an easier, more comprehensive way to effectively cancel all debt. I give my word as a Biden that it will work.
You simply crash the currency. Sort of like what we are doing now, but with a bit more commitment.
When that happens, all debts are effectively cancelled. You issue new currency “New Dollars” that are exchanged 10000:1 with “Old Dollars”
All money in the bank and all debts are zero.
Then all you have to do is find everyone with assets and confiscate them.
Viola! We are all equal. We all have nothing!
Every week, the price of votes gets higher and higher.
“Just think of ... like ... all the money we would be saving if we didn’t have all that medical debt. So like ... just pay it ...”
Yep. We have Medicare and Tricare Life, they do not cover a lot of things that ACA covers. Having just spent nearly $3,000 on a lower denture due to complications. And the denture still doesn’t fit right. Dentist is not a fly by night like Aspen. He’s been my dentist 20 yrs, and is a Ret. Army Reserve LT. Col. I can’t afford more and still not have a denture that works. Not 1 dime is paid for by either of our health care providers. I’m a Spouse and get less coverage. Hubby only qualifies for VA for Flight Deck hearing loss and dental as his teeth were knocked out while active duty.
Why not? They will get everything the need and want for free, starting with medical care and college tuition. What possible use would they have for money?
Maybe I miss Sander’s points, but I think he may be a little NUTS. I’m certainly not a fan of high priced medicine or in overpricing of the practice of medicine in any way, shape, or form, but it seems if you try to eliminate all the profit from it, then no one can benefit on either side. Any time the government interferes, there are always inequities.
I've been a responsible person and have been paying my obligations in a timely manner my entire life. I am now debt-free and have some small retirement funds to live on.
But I was wondering if you had "legislation" in the works that would compensate me so I could recover and recoup all of my out-of-pocket expenses over the past decades for things you are now promising people for "free"?
Seems like the only fair thing to do. Otherwise, under your plans, only the derelict, irresponsible and unreliable folks will be taken care of and those of us who chose to go the proper route, are getting screwed.
Is that the vision for America you have as president? Prop up the bad guys and screw the good guys? By forcing them to pay for the loser's problems and not get anything in return themselves?
Hey Bernie, go f*ck yourself.
I’ll give Bernie credit for one thing. He’s awful generous with my money.
It is common that if you are battling cancer and fighting for your life-you will commonly be quite broke. Regretfully this comes with the territory. Nothing to be ashamed or depressed about.
Also, hospitals and medical organizations are often very understanding about making demands for money. As long as you agree to make a solid gesture and consistently pay a portion of your bill, they will leave you alone.
Which is why ER’s in CA are closing because illegals don’t pay for their care.
I want free electricity, gas and oh, free Uber.
C’mon Bernie, get with it.
(I don’t wanna work either)
