‘Excuses!’ Trump claims ‘badly run and weak companies’ are using China tariffs as a scapegoat

President Donald Trump on Friday argued “badly run and weak companies” have blamed his trade war with China for flagging business in order to mask “bad management.”

His tweet comes as more companies from a range of industries have started to slam his tariffs on about $550 billion in Chinese goods. Earlier this week, more than 160 industry groups criticized Trump’s latest move to slap duties on Chinese products.

The Chicoms are pushing everyone they can pressure, to promote their Party line for them in the USA.

They are calling for all hands on deck, as their super-tanker full of debt sham economy is heading for the rocks.

I support Trump as much as anyone but sometimes he needs to think before he posts. I know a lot of farmers who are Trump supporters but are really scared about these tariffs. I don’t see an upside in insulting them. I know Trump’s a lot smarter than me and there may be some 3D psychological chess going on here but I just don’t see the benefit in tweets like this.

The first major economy that stands to be gutted by communist China’s “Made in China 2025” industrial policy, is Germany’s precision machinery export model.

Don’t fantasize that they will come for you last.

I did not read this story but there was a piece just yesterday or the day before specifically about the fact the farmers support for Trump has not flagged one bit despite the tariffs.

Keep in mind that the farmers were more or less bailed out by receiving billions in cash derived from the tariffs.

That GM used taxpayer money to relocate factories to China is particularly infuriating.

Businesses that have relocated their supply chain there, or R&D etc. are all traitors to the American people and deserve what they get.

I’m supportive of a FULL EMBARGO of all goods sourced in China. It’s a National Security issue.

No matter WHAT concessions they make for a “deal”.

And those consumers who buy Chinese goods are complicit.

I am an American posting about America.

Now, what pray tell would you post if I didn't have “Berlin” in my name?

"I did not read this story but there was a piece just yesterday or the day before specifically about the fact the farmers support for Trump has not flagged one bit despite the tariffs."

Yes, they are hanging with Trump despite their fears. And they are afraid. I go to church with a lot of farmers and virtually every week at Sunday school one asks for prayers that they be able to withstand these tariffs. They support Trump and are willing to stay the course but rightly or wrongly they are very concerned. I can easily see them taking this tweet as a slap in the face - that they wouldn't be afraid if they weren't bad businessmen.

China’s plan to put tariffs on U.S. crude oil shows it is willing to take more economic pain in the trade war than some in the markets have expected, according to a Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s commodities analyst.

Don’t you live in Germany?

Regardless of your background, the truth of the matter remains - the Chinese communists intend to take over more businesses from the West (by any and all means, not through fair competition) and Germany stands to be the first to sustain a really devastating economic loss, because its economic model is so heavily dependent on the export of precision machinery and autos - which are fundamental targets of Made in China 2025.

I currently live in Germany.

The truth of the matter remains you still haven’t shared a thought on-topic because you saw I have “Berlin” in my name.

I am from NYC.

Now what you got?

China put a small tariff on American oil, because they wanted to save face, and continue to posture as a mighty power, that can go toe to toe trading blows with the USA economically. If investors and creditors see China as what it is - a mafia operation conducting the largest financial fraud in Human history, the flow of real money could dry up, and their house of cards would implode.

Oil is is a commodity product (like soybeans). Commodities are the class of imports for which they can most easily find substitute suppliers. Most American imports are things they really need for their economy, because everything else has long been blocked out by their many unfair trade practices.

So they “retaliated” with tariffs that would total about $5 billion per year, if volume stayed the same. President Trump responded with $27 billion per year on them, that afternoon. Now they graciously say they don’t plan to retaliate again “at this time”. They have very little left they could do to the USA with tariffs, and major room for the USA to put more painful tariffs on them.

The fight is over, it will just be a well deserved beating from this point on.

What you posted would be alright, except for political realities we now see manifesting themselves in this thread.

Political realities being that China operates in a closed political system that can take economic pain while knowing that President Trump has to deal with an open political system where economic pain could bring him down

Looks like that is what China is trying to do.

I look at it as a trade war beats a shooting war. China is a massive threat and needs to be confronted. Thankful that this hasn't yet involved missiles. Thankful that these farmers aren't sending their sons off to a far away land to put their lives on the line.

I'm hoping something comes out of this Japan deal and that other bilateral deals can be made to offset.

Who knows, maybe we're close to cracking them.

He is not talking about the farmers. He’s talking about the businesses who buy Chinese rather than American and are perfectly willing to sacrifice the American worker in order to make more money.

Every time someone whines about how things are going to cost more, I can’t hel but think if they bought American they would pay the same, get a better product, and keep our economy going instead of funding the Chinese military.

I’m pretty sure the great bulk of farmers know that this is not directed at them. There ARE businesses that are poorly managed and run by executives who specialize in excuse making and are deficient in problem solving skills. There ARE businesses with some Chinese supply chain dependencies that are too stupid and/or too lazy to begin planning on moving their supply chains out of China.

I am the CEO of a company that distributes products from US-based companies that manufacture their products in China. The tariffs, per se, have not caused the problems - we’ll simply pass on the price increases to our customers. The problem is that the on-again, off-again nature of the tariffs have frozen a lot of spending. Here’s an example: Trump comes back from Europe and says there’s been some phone calls with China and the possibility of a deal is imminent. We had several large orders placed on hold as customers now think that the prices may go down if there is a deal.

Trump may think I’m making excuses, but we’re not a poorly-run company. I’d gladly invite Trump to tell me where I can improve. When orders are cancelled it is hard to cover payroll- simple math. I know many on here believe he is playing 3-d chess but somedays it seems like he’s just throwing darts.

Some of our OEM’s are in the process of moving manufacturing out of China but that does not happen overnight. Markets hate unpredictability and grenade in the foxhole tweets don’t help. Trump has to remember he’s alienating his base with comments like these.
