Well, my employer is moving a lot of manufacturing from China to Vietnam.
Does anyone have numbers on how many companies and jobs China has lost to the trade war?
Heck, check the labels inside most of the shirts you buy now. All is see is Nam and Indonesia. Those ere there most every time.
Check Ethan Allen furniture as well. Has been made in ‘Nam for years now.
I have a few driver shafts lying around that were made in Viet Nam. Aldila if I recall.
It is not just clothing. A lot of the frozen shrimp in US supermarkets comes from Vietnam.

Shrimp gumbo,
fried shrimp,
butterfly shrimp,

When I do the grocery shopping here in NH, I shop at Market Basket. A family owned chain out of Mass. Almost as cheap as going to Costco.
MY wife likes to go to Shaws Supermarkets. They tend to be a little fancier and more expensive. Not as bad as the Holy Land(Whole Foods).
So, I opened my freezer last week and see a bag of frozen scallops my wife had bought at Shaws. I flip it over to see Product of China printed on the plastic bag. I made sure to point this out to Mrs. Woodbutcher when she got home. I also said to never, ever buy food from China again.
I believe that Trumps primary goal in the trade war with China is exactly this
When he was running for president he talked about bring manufacturing jobs back to America, not to Vietnam. Moving American companies jobs from China to Vietnam isnt going to win a lot of votes in Ohio or Michigan
Trump always plays a deeper game than what he says. Some jobs HAVE come back to the US, steel mills for one, automotive manufacturing for another, but I don’t think many people believe that the garment or shoe factories that closed down in the 70s were ever coming back. Those jobs are labor intensive and didn’t pay squat in their heyday.
