By the time Trump nominated Wray, he should have known better. Within hours of his nomination Wray was pegged as the DS stooge he has turned out to be here on FR. The president should look for hiring advice here rather than in DC.

Hiring lawyers to make sure the DOJ obeys the law.

Color this with the rainbow flag of the state of irony. /sarc

Trump plugged Executive Service NPC Wray into the prominent bureaucratic socket from which drama queen Comey was unceremoniously yanked because he was temporarily beset by an unprecedented storm of deep state perfidy. To mount the kind of offensive campaign that would have been necessary to push an actual sentient being through the senate confirmation process and install same as a potentially worthwhile FBI director could have cost Trump close to his last ounce of political capital. But the Mueller investigation was then (unjustly) dangling over his political neck like the proverbial sword of Damocles. In order to survive in the way he wanted to survive, Trump needed to display long-term strength and bravado.

So, he punted on the FBI director post.

It was probaby the right decision at the time, even though it’s causing certain problems for him now.

Can the “Office of Transparency” fire people if they don’t turn over documents?

Disappointing - this is a typical politician’s move. Trump should not delegate his authority to expose documents.

I don’t believe he wants to expend the political capital to release the docs.

Why doesn’t President Trump invite FBI Director Chris Wray to the Oval Office for an attitude adjustment session. The session should go like this. Chris, if you like your job, then henceforth and for evermore you will seek to maximize every opportunity to provide the information sought from the FBI, and minimize any reason to conceal the info. The info belongs to the people except in cases that would involve national security. Efforts to prohibit me from being elected president and efforts to prevent me from remaining president have nothing to do with national security. You got it? Good. I hope that you want to serve your entire tenure as director. The ball is now in your court. You are in the game and I am the coach.

Where are all the documents that were already promised to be released? Who is dragging their feet and why?

***Sadly, Trump has to hire someone to do the job that Barr won’t do. Can’t Trump just DO IT, and skip any middle man***

It might take someone with power of the Vice-God. Maybe just send in Seal Team six...

"Well, Trump will need to give the new office lots of crowbars, jackhammers and dynamite to get those documents out of the hands of the Deep Staters."

Isn't it a crime to withhold them? Can't they be prosecuted?

The president can give the FBI director a direct order to immediately turn over any documents the president wishes.

Sorry, there is no evidence the GOP Senate would confirm a replacement any better than Wray.

The President is pretty much powerless in making it happen. He can direct declassification, but there are enough laws and policies in effect that the foot draggers can hide behind and delay release for years, not to mention legal actions to drag in the courts.
