Steam engine pioneer James Watt is CONDEMNED by Glasgow University as part of slave 'reparations'

Glasgow university has condemned steam train pioneer James Watt links to slave trade.

Glasgow University had recently signed an 'historic' agreement to fund a £20million programme of 'reparative justice' over its links to the slavery during the British Empire.

A report by Glasgow University last year found that 25 financial gifts and donations that came from the profits of slavery and a further 18 that may have done so.

These would be worth at least £16 million in today's money.

The report says the father of 'the famous inventor James Watt' was 'a West India merchant and slave-trader who supported Watt in his career.'

Glasgow University is believed to be the first institution in the UK to pledge money to atone for its links to the transatlantic slave trade

It adds: 'Watt worked for his father as a mercantile agent in Glasgow during the 1750s. Furthermore, Caribbean planters who needed to process sugar cane were significant consumers of James Watt's steam-engines.

'It is certain that Watt profited from slavery and its commerce, but exact quantification is impossible.'

The reparation programme says that the centre, which will have two sites in Glasgow and the Caribbean, will stimulate public awareness about the history of slavery and its impact around the world.

Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, the university vice chancellor, said: 'One of our report's external advisers says, while you can't change the past, you can change their consequences.

'This is the story of our journey to do this to further enhance awareness and understanding of our history and the university's connections to both historical slavery and the abolitionist movement.'

Watt's image on the £50 note is to be replaced by World War II codebreaker Alan Turing from 2021.

Oh the horror...now they'll demand to have the Watt renamed.

And all of its related units, too.

I’m sorry. I gotta say it.

If I was from another country and I read this.

And I read a few years ago that the south was being stripped of its heritage in the form of monuments and flags being taken away.

And I read that gay marriage was now legal and common.

As was gay couples adopting kids.

And that prisons and states and medical insurance companies were being forced to pay for guys’ d...s to be cut off.

And that an actor got in a lot of trouble for saying 3 year olds shouldn’t be able to decide what gender they want to be...

I would say WHAT an INSANE country and thy are circling the drain!!

And I would think well at least more than 50 percent of the people voted for a guy who wants to turn this insanity around and that is their last hope.

I think the place where I work is profiting from underpaying me....maybe I should sue for reparations.

That’s it! Time to show solidarity by shutting down all nuclear steam reactors and tourist trains.

Right.

Condemn the man who launched the technology that has freed billions of humans from brutal labour.

Do they take money from any oil sheiks, Saudi Arabia or other Arab countries where virtual slavery still exists and members of the LGBTQ community are regularly put to death?

I’d rather honor James Watt and forget the slaves, I’m sick of hearing about them, their descendants are culturally dominated a bunch of whiny, easily offended left wing nitwits who continue to make decisions that harm all of us (including other black people) if not themselves and their own kids directly.

You want to know who is oppressing black people? It’s black people!

They call non-conformists Uncle Toms despite the fact that in the book Tom was a long suffering innocent yet meanwhile many blacks, from the gangs that terrorize in some cases their own kin to the race pimps who try to keep blacks on the Left’s plantation, do poor Tom’s literary abuser proud with the harm they inflict on THEIR long suffering innocents that they hem in.

So I don’t care that people were once slaves because idiots who are slaves to left wing ideology demand I care ... and I’d rather offend such idiots at every turn, gleefully offend them, than get along with them or desire their friendship or approval.

The politically correct are the enemy.

This is NOT about racism. This is about erasing all history and replacing it with the communist party narrative.

There was no slave trade without a LOT of cooperation from others in those “slave countries”(even Kunta Kinte was captured by other blacks),

plus the ARAB merchants who ran the whole thing ... funny, we don’t see no modern condemnations of the Arabs’ role in running the slave trade

“It adds: ‘Watt worked for his father as a mercantile agent in Glasgow during the 1750s.”

Guilt by association.

“Furthermore, Caribbean planters who needed to process sugar cane were significant consumers of James Watt’s steam-engines. “

Wouldn’t that mean LESS slaves needed to do labor?

‘It is certain that Watt profited from slavery and its commerce, but exact quantification is impossible.’

Fake but inaccurate.

The steam engine did more to eliminate slavery than all the politicians combined.

Watt had a racist father.
Watt invented the first economical steam engine.
Steam engines eventually powered boats.
Boats carried slaves.

Therefore, QED, if you’ve ever been on a boat, you are a racist.

More importantly, ...the technology that freed billions of humans from brutal labour AND SLAVERY.

The south didn't need slaves after the introduction of mechanization and powered equipment. Steam power dominated agriculture for decades before the internal combustion engine was invented and quite a while after the ICE was introduced.
